Why is it that amazing views rarely look amazing on camera?

You could crop this down and try to adjust the color balance. The lighting is off and there is too much in the foreground. I can see what you're going for though, nice view!

Because cameras tend to focus on the closest object. Try manually adjusting the focus to the part further away.
