Should fines be relative to what you earn?

Let's say you and I both commit the same parking offence. Yet you earn 5 times what I earn. Should your fine be 5 times more than mine?

in Finland, speeding tickets are linked to your income

So a millionaire can park wherever and whenever he or she wants and not give a fuck about the fine or the law.

It's an interesting philosophical concept. for tax evasion and other financial crimes I believe it's already that way. But offences like parking tickets or minor traffic violations shouldn't be treated like that. If you're rich and get $10k parking ticket, you'd feel targeted.

I think its a great idea. I believe it even sometimes happens. I'm sure a famous footballer here was fined £67,000 for a driving offence here recently.
No ,you should pay more cause you are poor ,America likes to fuck the poor

No, it's not fair to charge someone more for the same offense
I could see that. The same dollar amount translates to a different penalty—rich have bail and freedom while the poor languish in prison awaiting trial —for the same offense.

A fine suggestion! Nope. Cops would target the rich.
