Do you trust the government as a whole to keep you safe ??

If you're talking about the U.S. gov't, well it depends on the particular day, the direction of the wind, and God only knows what other thing that would have them keeping us safe. The threats are out there and our "Gov't has missed them more than a few times. To answer...I'm doubtful!
