Why are you in the groups you are in?

I just had some guy come to me and say "so you are a witch"....I have never seen or spoke to this guy before so i was rather taken aback. He made the assumption that everyone in any group, let's say witches, is a witch. I tried to get this guy to not make assumptions and to think before he speaks...because people join groups for their own personal reasons. lets say the witchcraft group...a person may join because they are one, or were one, or want to become one, or have an interest in, or are doing research on, or are curious...it doesnt mean everyone in there is one. He got so snarky and impolite then blew me off saying "well this isnt going anywhere", and proceeded to block me. Pity ...of course he didnt read my other groups or he would have known i would have put him in his place on so many levels. This guy claims he is a "master" and is looking for subs..his profile says he is 26+ but based on his behaviour, he is far younger and is only a wanna be master and doesnt have a clue how to be one...online or off. As I told him...get to know the person you approach, by talking to them, before you pop off with assumptions and off putting behaviour. sorry, just had to vent...

Not sure why people feel opening the lines of communication with someone by interrogating them will work.

Same as the ones who see anything sexual in groups and assume it's directed at them or that you're obligated to speak to them about it. I have tons of them checked as "admissions" to things I've done, am into or am curious about, not advertisements.
Thanks for BA!

@DancingStarGoddess its nice to hear someone that thinks along the same lines as me...you deserved the BA
@annamarie65 Thank you!

I think the purpose of requiring you to list some groups is to provide clues as to what interests you, so I don't think the assuming part is the problem. Jumping from a clue to a conclusion is the problem, and unfortunately some people have never learned how to be civil in exploring the clues. Maturation -- or rather the lack of it -- frequently is a big contributing factor, but certainly not limited to age.

I especially like when you have a discussion about a topic that in no way relates to your groups, but then someone says "oh yes, well you are in X group, that makes you a moron, pervert, etc"

I have no idea how people make those leaps.
If I was ever in any room...physical on online....and wanted to start a conversation, I would most likely ask, "So what brings you in here?" If they had some knowledge or experience of the specific topic, then I'd want to learn more or share. If they were just checking things out, I'd offer to answer any questions. Like you, I don't know why some people assume interrogation is the first line of communication. Nice vent!

I would have thought that if you are a member of a group called "I am proud to be a witch", then it is a fairly safe assumption
annamarie65 · 56-60, F
@Tuscan again, i have joined groups that were called such things but it does not mean i am one, i have joined because a friend was one and i was there to support them...many people do that or for any of the other reasons i stated above.
annamarie65 · 56-60, F
and by the way, i am not saying i am one or am not one...as many old school witches call me a white witch

@annamarie65 I agree that the groups to which one belongs should not be taken as a defining characteristic. I belong to a group called "I was in the boy scouts", because for twenty years or so I was, however I have not been an active member of the scout movement for 40 years or so. I also belong to a group called "I do not go to church", because I do not regularly attend a church, I did go to a church to attend a funeral just last week though.

I have joined my groups because I'm a nudist, I love to do everything naked ,gardens, housework, fishing ,boating or just relaxing ,the feel of the sun wind and rain on my body feels fantastic😍

For the most part I think I’ve posted in all the groups I’ve added, and the groups are pretty much self explanatory.

Well because they either describe or interest me.
