I thought yours was a pretty good question so I went on youtube and searched his name, since I had never heard his music before, couldn't make it through a whole song. excessive use of autotune and really annoying assemblage of samplings. just horrible.

Why is anyone liked? Same traits. Because he is confident and doesn't give a damn what people think.

I wouldn't call it popularity. More of a watching of dumfuckary playing out in his life.
