Do you find it annoying when people answer with just yes or no?

In PM I do. Especially if they are the type to whine about people only messaging them with "Hi".

If it was annoying me, then I would simply ask open-ended questions.

I do i kinda think “ok.....and?” Lols but some folk want people to know without giving detailed reason and I get that to ... others are just trying to be prats and some say yes or no with an entire essay attached to it. Lol 💃🏻

The best way to avoid this is to phrase the question so that a response requires more than a monosyllabic answer.
Even though many people will still only answer with a yes or no.
Yes or no answers do not promote quality interaction among SW members.
