Do you think Trump will shut the US government down or is it just bluster?

Adaydreambeliever · 56-60, F
I wish he would shut himself down!
@Adaydreambeliever Lol ! Word. 😃
xixgun · M
Shutting the government down, more often than not, shows most of us how little of the government is really needed.

since he was 8 years old, his three tools have been, Bluster first,,, failing that wheedle and lie.
hlpflwthat · M
@xixgun And defending a lying, cheating grifter does something of value?

Pot meet kettle 😏
@xixgun Thanks for your response.
i hope a long reply is all right.

I had to vote for a third party, I could not go for Hillary, and knew too much about DRT's long history of ill dealings.

bitching IS a waste of time.

I'd like to think that what I am doing, is having informed conversations, with other Americans, about what is going on in our country. I think exchanging views is part of how our process is supposed to work free speech and all

I agreed with some of his positions, ( NAFTA) tho not all
It is his actions, that concern me. That and tho it is old fashioned to care, he seems less than ethical in his businesses and now. I cannot comfortably support a person whose character i find disturbing, as i also feel about Mrs Clinton.
This long association with Russia is disturbing, especially in light of their Attack on our Nation, during the 2016 election. Why did they want him to win? what is THEIR agenda?

He has kept few of his campaign promises, his actions instead have hurt the US farmer and many other businesses with his 19th century tariffs. Forbes and Business Insider, among others seem to have the same view. those are pro business, traditionally conservative outlets. companies as diverse as Tyson, Harley Davidson, Coke, whirlpool, Qualcom and Union Pacific Railroad, the entire steel industry and aluminum industry, all have been hurt by this.

i support a tight legal boarder, but the method of a stupendous wall will not give us that. Why not ask the Boarder patrol and system what THEY want. i bet they would be overjoyed at say, 500 million dollar bump to their budget.

there has never been a politician i liked so mush as to over look bad results, and Breaking the law. ( like BHO did)

The constitution is important to me.

I welcome your views, civil discourse is much more fun for me than the angry recriminations, that so many on left AND right seem addicted to.

what do you think we should be doing about the world of problems we all are facing?
@hlpflwthat lets try to be polite, especially with those we might oppose!
I think it is intended to be e bluster, but he might well make it happen. I don't think he cares much about the effect of anything other than how it impacts him and will use anything he can for leverage.
Zaphod42 · 46-50, M
I think he gives not one shit about all the citizens and government employees that will be affected...he made it clear with his tantrum that if he doesn't get his wall he'll just let the world burn.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
The gutless and failing Baby-trump has already backed down on that empty threat scared by his own unnecessary drama along with the 17 federal investigations now underway on him for criminal activity including the charity he has been forced to shut-down for illegal/unethical practices.
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
I don't know but it's funny when one president causes a shutdown his party blames the house when another president causes a shutdown they blame the president.
Party politics make my head hurt.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
did you bitch and moan about all the other shut downs, hell believe it or not they are great for the economy
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@MarineBob You lost your right to an opinion on what's "good for the economy" after you argued in favor of using American taxpayer money to support the genocide in Yemen by giving it to Saudi Arabia. You're never again able to be taken seriously on economics when you actually support giving US money to Muslim jihadists.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
I don't support giving any country U.S. money or supplies
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@MarineBob Well then you've changed your opinion since the last time we spoke. To the correct position, I might add.
SW-User
I have no doubt that he will shut it down if for no other reason than to change the narrative and deflect from all the discussions of investigations.
@SW-User I think your right. The wall has never been about border security, and at this point, even if its not purely a distraction, anything Trump does needs to be looked at with regard to its effect on Trump and his famil[ies] as well as whatever policies are ostensibly being promoted.

He's been given a blank check long enough, and it's time for someone else to actually pay attention to the nation's checkbook.
KingofPizza2 · 36-40, M
Government shutdowns happen every few years anyway...

But, also today I saw something saying that he had possibly found other ways to get the money for it.
hlpflwthat · M
More of the same - he's walking this back too. Sarah Sanders said 30 minutes ago that they have other ways to come up with $5 billion.

We won't hold our breath waiting to hear what those ways entail.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@hlpflwthat “Our petition detailed a shocking pattern of illegality involving the Trump Foundation — including unlawful coordination with the Trump presidential campaign, repeated and willful self-dealing, and much more,” Underwood said in a statement. “This amounted to the Trump Foundation functioning as little more than a checkbook to serve Mr. Trump’s business and political interests.”

Should anyone be surprised that Trump's favorite charity was himself? Add this fiasco to the growing list of his crimes.
hlpflwthat · M
@windinhishair What has happened to that $10,000 portrait of El Cheetoh? The Foundation really deserves ownership of that majestic piece of art. And I can believe there are certain folks out there who would have a lot of fun with that masterpiece for $10K
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@hlpflwthat I heard it was hanging in one of his properties, but disappeared when it got some press. I'm sure the State of New York will take proper care of it when they find it.
Riverman · 56-60, M
I don't know if he will. I do know that I damn well would.
Isn't this an annual event?
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
@TheSirfurryanimalWales I think Trumpy is trying to start a new tradition 😂
AnneHoney · 36-40, F
New would be not shutting it down since past presidents did.@Dlrannie
abe182 · 46-50, M
It can't be Trump who shuts down the government, that's the HOUSE.
Yes it's going to happen!
MissTaken · 36-40, F
Probably bluster 🙂
Coppercoil · M
it's irrelevant.. government shutdowns don't mean shit. unless you work for the government in dc. don't buy the hype.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@Coppercoil It's not necessarily the effect of it as much as it is the concept behind it. Like, it's a testament to how dysfunctional our country's leadership is if the people who we've elected to fulfill the authoritative side of the social contract can't even work well enough to stay operational.
SheikYerbouti · 51-55, M
@BlueMetalChick Should be illegal to shut down the government.
Salix75 · 46-50, F
even if he does, many of the government services will still carry on operating as normal as they are deemed essential
RodionRomanovitch · 56-60, M
He's already blinked. Cousin Huckabee says they will find the money elsewhere.
SaxonAZ · 51-55, M
No. It's to make it all about him (like everything else). It would be a bad move on his part.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
In debt up to the country's eyeballs,he doesn't really have a choice does he ?
He did briefly before. Funny how in 2012 he said only a “weak” leader lets that happen–and now he’s threatening to do it. 🙄
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
@bijouxbroussard Ah the good old double standard is still alive 😂

@LvChris I saw this. Keep in mind, the dissolution could go on for a long time, and my guess is, it's in everyone's interests to shut it down. Restitution from the kiddies and breach of fiduciary duty claims were not addressed, and that's where the action likely is, since I'm sure theyve long since plundered the assets.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
Well Cruz did it so why not.
@BlueMetalChick MR ruz, surprised me the other day. wrote an article in The Atlantic.
surprising in it's compassion and rational ideas
not a fan, but I am looking at him with new perspective
Riverman · 56-60, M
I hope he does it!
goliathtree · 56-60, M
takes two to tango.
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
Do you think he could? Thats the real question. lol
abe182 · 46-50, M
@AnneHoney right. Or the house doesn't produce a CR
abe182 · 46-50, M
@MartinTheFirst nice back pedal 😌
AnneHoney · 36-40, F
Then they woukd be closing it. Funny how these know nothings have a different view of things Trump does than when previous Presidents including the 3 previous Dems all did it. Discussing politics with these know nothings is a waste of time. Have fun.@abe182
GerOttman · 61-69, M
Somebody should!!

president trump will not shut the US government down, his stance has softened since last week: "There are certainly a number of different funding sources that we've identified that we can use, that we can couple with money that would be given through congressional appropriations that would help us get to that $5 billion that the president needs in order to protect our border," - Sarah Huckabee Sanders 12/18/2018
