What do the Brits say about the American revolution in their history classes?

This question isn't open for attacks on the fellows across the pond and is a genuine query

It was covered. Essentially the dispute about taxes and representation that led to it and then how it was a failure militarily from UK point of view. Most soldiers were unwilling peasants pressganged into the force few qualified soldiers. Basically underestimated the rebels. Obviously the part of the war in Europe with France, Spain and Holland probably given more prominence than American teaching also that was where UK focused best troops etc

@SW-User Now that's something we weren't told, I had no idea about the soldiers

They don’t even teach it in schools so I imagine most aren’t even aware of it until after school.

@NickiHijab Yeah that just sounds like they don't teach history. What the hell, even I learned some history and I was in an underfunded remote school with pretty limited course options.
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
@NickiHijab I was actually surprised to learn this through your comment. I should say though that it's still better to not teach anything about the Empire than glorify it. Although I'd say an indirect effect of the British Empire is the connectedness of the world today.

@MasterofNone That’s an interesting way to look at it. I guess you’re right in some ways.

I don't remember doing anything about American history at school.

@Jackaloftheazuresand Not that I remember. There's lots of British history we never covered either.
Love4All · 56-60, F
@SW-User understandable your history is so much more than the US’
SW-User
@Love4All It is a long time since I was at school so I may be mistaken. I remember doing South African and Chinese history. We tend to specialize very early in UK. A lot of people will drop history completely at 15. I spent 2 years studying the industrial revolution, so I know all about canals and railways, but not much about battles.

Idk but it's just a small part of their history I'd be more curious about the situation with independence of India, that's more relevant imho.
Sunujing · 46-50, M
It was an unfortunately successful rebellion and Benedict Arnold was a hero...

I work with bunch of Brits and have asked this question
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
I hope that someday history will be taught impartially in every country.
NeloAngelo · 26-30, M
We defended the colonies from invasion, got broke because of it asked for Some money in return. Colonies said no, then they didn't pay there taxes. Somebody threw tea in the water and we brits love our tea and all hell broke loose.
