In the USA people refer to rest rooms, why?

Isn't semantics wonderful?Haven't heard that term in ages.Most folks just say either "Men's or Lady's room".I first heard toilets referred to as "restrooms" when i was a kid growing up but it's very rarely used these days.Take care!

Yet you call it a loo. Or watercloset.
A water closet is that where you hang your water?

Better yet, why do Americans pronounce Lieutenant as Loo-Tenant? :P

Sometimes we call them bathrooms too, even if there is no way to bathe in there.
