US foreign policies directly affect England, that's why. Brits are not dumb in general and do discuss on serious topics.
Having an interest in what goes on around the world globally is really important.

But, since you ask, consider this. Trump, an extremely right wing president looks set to compete for a second term as president. The economy is improving, unemployment is improving....if his tenure is a success what will the rest of the world do? There will be many countroes that will want such strong extremism and will follow suit.

Politics should never be tied to the country you live in. It is how we learn what does and does not work.
@geekie there always is
SW-User
@geekie and some of it is linked to that. With Brexit we need good relationship with the USA as one of our largest markets outside EU added very important regards inward investment. His trade barriers are probably exactly what we don't need as we go out on our own. Plus decision like his universal imposition of sanctions on Iran now means big oil companies like BP have to pull out of there or face losing USA market.
Macro economic in the global era. USA affects so much much of the world

Second point is more important, USA economy is so influential as biggest in world. policies like the trade tariffs against UK and Iranian sanctions hitting UK companies are important.

Plus we rely on USA for our defence via NATO more important now as we leave EU just as it thinks about an alternative European army.

What happens in Washington has massive effect on UK all the time.
gol979 · 41-45, M
@SW-User defence = offence. European army is a terrible idea......just more money for the military arms industry
SW-User
@gol979 arguably but with Russia... Ukrainian action .. what happened in Georgia? 🤔. Can we be without a strong United Army and if Trump pulled USA out if NATO? What's to stop Russia reclaiming back to the Danube? Or more?
gol979 · 41-45, M
@SW-User what is it with the russiaphobia? This is a tactic that's been used for decades and has come back en vogue.
There's an alternative narrative to Ukraine.....seems to be a cia backed coup there that backed the extreme right wing.
And a quick look at NATO positioning (surrounding russia), the history of NATO...the Berlin wall came down under the auspices that NATO forces would encroach further towards Russian boarders.....that was agreed verbally with the top brass of the US and russia. As soon as the wall came down NATO moved towards Russian borders. The response as to why they broke the agreement.....that Russia were foolish to believe a verbal agreement.
I'm not saying the Russian state is correct but it's worth mentioning these things.
Also, NATO was set up to contain the Russian threat. A European army would make it obsolete but no way will it be disbanded
Caroline · 26-30, F
So how do you think Brexit will pan out Geeke
geekie · 22-25, F
Caroline · 26-30, F
We would have been far better if we had just left instead of the two years wasted Europe sell a huge amount more things to us than us to them So it’s in their interest to have a neutral tax import and export
geekie · 22-25, F
O Kkkkk

Trump is a controversial character so it makes for a good story. The media love a good story.
SW-User
We need a distraction from brexit and all that
JimboUk · 31-35, M
Why does it bother you so much? Lol
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
It's simply cuz people are bored. That's why we discuss things that we have no influence in, and a great deal of people use politics as entertainment.
