A question for people over 40

Do you think you don't drink as much as you did in your younger years? I don't feel the inclination or even enjoy it as I once did.
Fernie · F
I drank 20 years away...my body started telling me in no uncertain terms that it could NOT handle it anymore. I listened ten years ago and stopped drinking hard liquor...drank white wine for a few years and again...the body said nuh-uh. I am quite happy to not want or need it anymore. Thank you body
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
It pretty much lost its allure for me when I was about 25. Sore head empty wallet. What was the point of that.
Northwest · M
I am strictly a wine, paired with food, kind of guy. I've Kavanaugh'ed back in the day, minus the sexual assault.
@Northwest 😜
karysma · 31-35, F
My dad used to have a drink like everyday but when he reached his late fourties he started doing it weekends only
Rhonda · F
@karysma I think that's what most people end up doing
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Last time I had a couple of drinks it just made me feel tired and what's the use in that?
Rhonda · F
@cherokeepatti yes, as a man commented above, the fun factor goes.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Rhonda I want more energy at this stage in my life.
JustNik · 51-55, F
I still like my drink, I’m just unwilling to get drunk anymore. Don’t have time to feel that crappy the next day. LOL
Rambler · M
Very little now. It felt good, once upon a time, but I can’t stand the aftermath anymore. One is my limit, and not often.
Fernie · F
My body rejects alcohol these days...I'm listening to it
Rhonda · F
@Fernie I think that's it, your body has had enough
Fernie · F
@Rhonda Absolutely right! I lived on Scotch for nearly 20 years. Stopped drinking hard liquor many years ago and was able to drink wine socially. Can't do that anymore because you are right...it's had enough. It was kind enough to not let my liver snap off though!
GeniUs · 56-60, M
I drink more and enjoy it more but it's time to go on the wagon for a few weeks.
Less. I enjoy sipping Bourbon in moderation 🥃
@softspokenman That’s my drink of choice, maybe once or twice a month. One drink, only.

A quit being a drunk at age 21. Rarely touch the stuff at all.
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
I don’t drink anywhere near as much as I did when I was in my late 20s.
okaybut · 56-60, M
No way as much...my body cannot handle it the same way. I also find that I cannot get "fun drunk" the same way. I keep too much control now.
Rhonda · F
@okaybut exactly, the fun has gone and as I drank so much once, I believe I built a resistance to it, so just get tired now
fdurst · 56-60, M
@Rhonda I stopped completely for about 5 years (during my 30s). Any tolerance I had developed pretty much disappeared. Upon resuming, I did not pursue the binges as I once had, which means my tolerance has not increased. I also do not drink during the week, only weekends. Thus when i do have a few drinks, I have a really great time.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
I was never that much of a drinker even when I was in university but yes I have reduced my consumption of alcohol since then.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
I know you said over 40 but I've never really drank. I've tried to get into it. Things just don't taste good to me. 😐
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
OK I’ll send my answer in 12 years time😂

I went to rehab at 41 and not drunk since.... it wasn't true for me my consumption continued to increase
SW-User
Unfortunately, the other direction.
Rhonda · F
@SW-User do you enjoy it though?
SW-User
@Rhonda Oh, too much, yes. Time to cut back big time, though.
I definitely drink much less than I did. And I don’t drink the sugary drinks I used to love like Kahlua, Bailey, ciders, sweet wines, etc.
Rhonda · F
@bijouxbroussard same here, I don't drink those sugary drinks or sweet drinks.
TheShanachie · 61-69, M
One to 2 high quality beers or a couple of glasses of dry wine and I am done, relaxation
SW-User
I went to rehab when I was 41 not drunk since fortunately.
Fernie · F
@SW-User Good for you!!!!!
I quit drinking years ago when I realized I liked it way too much.
Zaphod42 · 46-50, M
I lost interest in drinking a few years ago.
Rhonda · F
Replying to my own question, instead of you all. I was a heavy drinker in my 20s and 30s. Now I hardly enjoy a drink and when I have a night out I force it down. A few others in my age group say the same.
Ironicman · 56-60, M
I still have it in me to stack them up but I simply can't deal with it the next day. So its always in moderation nowdays, a glass of wine with a meal or when cooking!
SW-User
No I only have a drink if out having a meal or very occasionally I call in to a pub for a couple
zeeva70 · F
When I was younger, I would drink liquor and beer and now it's sweet wines. Still have a ways to go, I guess.
SW-User
I was never a big drinker even when I was younger but definitely even less now.
antonioio · 70-79, M
As a young person I find of got drunk and swore never again and now I hardly ever drink 😊
TryingSW45 · 46-50, M
I enjoy a drink - when younger I boozed and now I just drink
SW-User
I drink more.. but not much more. Not to excess.
Noworries72 · 51-55, M
That depends on why you drink, I guess.

😂@SW-User not that easy
I still like it.
Chevy454 · 46-50, M
Way more!!
lubovont · 70-79, M
I know I don’t drink as much as I did when I was younger. For one thing I can’t manage the sugar in some liquor now. For another, I don’t bounce back from hangovers as readily as I used to. So generally now it’s just one drink.
TJNewton · M
I had to pack it in 5 years ago Dr's Orders
Rhonda · F
@TJNewton I don't think you are missing out on a lot, but well done
