I don't think it's something one just naturally outgrows. It requires effort and learning to replace old, ineffective coping techniques with new, effective strategies. Part of that comes with time, experience, and trial, but part of it is choice.

Some people outgrow it, but there are certainly those that never do. You will find middle-aged people who act like clingy children. They are in a sense "emotionally stunted". I'd rather consider that the exception, not the rule, though.

It can but I also think that partly it is impacted by experience and conscious change.
