You Proud Of Your Hometown?

My hometown is Flint, MI. It has gone downhill since I was a kid. I also spent small part of life outside of Houston and live in TX now.

I was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec. Proud of what it used to be. It was a vibrant and beautiful city. A place I loved showing off to out of town guests.

In the late 1960s, it began to change, from a friendly place to a scary place for the English population. For a while, it was a scary place for everyone. FLQ had moved in, and talk about terrorism. People were afraid to mail letters. FLQ were planting bombs in mail boxes. Afraid to walk on the streets. They were being kidnapped and held, to show that these people meant business. Speak French or get out of our province.

The worst of it was, other demographics, ie...people who came from other places, were allowed to run businesses with signs posted in their own languages. English people were not allowed to post English signs. If an English person could speak French, but didn't know the word for a certain item in a store, they couldn't get served.

And then the beauty started being hidden behind and under all the elevated highways. Arriving in Montreal is like landing on another planet. Ugly planet. Spoiled.

Still, I like the people, one to one. I do not like the political atmosphere. And Montreal is no longer a place that's nice to visit.

@FlintDude Indeed, it is.
I've been away from my home town for 45 years and besides it's football team I have no interest in it.
The town I've been living in for the past 28 years is modern and developing but to be honest I can't stand the place.

A somewhat prominent hockey player came from there, that's really the only noteworthy thing in the past 200 years

Mark Twain is from my hometown. Not necessarily proud of it, but it’s pretty neat.

It's an okay place.

No not really
Yes, I still am, although right now the juxtaposition of tech billionaires and homeless is pretty outrageous. The cost of living is out of control, but there’s still a lot of beauty in San Francisco, CA.
