If you let yourself get hurt so you'd become wiser, does that make you a masochist or just stupid?

.... I may as well go through all those phases, first masochistic, then stupid and in the end finally wiser

I'm pretty sure it won't work. A lot of years ago a man stuck his foot in a power mower to knock off the wet clods of grass from the still spinning blade. The blades severed his foot. Six months later, standing with the aid of a crutch, he demonstrated how the accident happened, of course using the other foot. It was severed.

That taught me an important lesson. If you stick your foot in a lawnmower once, and lose your foot, that is really a shame and you have my sympathy.

If you then stick your other foot into a lawnmower, I mean, come ON.

I've never known anyone who purposely gets hurt specifically to get wiser.
People are open hearted, they get hurt. Sometimes they learn sometimes they don't.

I think I just did it for the money. 💰🤔

Not quite an answer - but life decides when and how you learn life lessons. If you step into the path of the wrecking ball, thst may be extra credit, but it doesn't count.
