Anyone just pack family and move to a “new life”?

Husband and I are in a tough time in our lives. Just had a baby 8 months ago.. he got laid off from his job, 10 years as a real estate attorney, and I have my job but just got passed over for the 3rd time, for a promotion, for a job I’m already doing. It’s tough. We have about 30k in the bank.. we have family in Hawaii but don’t think we could depend on them.. we are truly talking about selling ALL of our stuff.. and starting a new life.. him passing the Hawaiian bar, me getting my real estate license or finding a sales position..I KNOW that just because you change places it doesn’t make life better but.. we think the more laid back vibe of Hawaii would make us happy.. being near a beach etc.. we don’t have a whole lot to stay here for. Anyone ever done something similar ? How did it work out?

In 2008, lost my house, repossession, quit my job of$100K yr, moved to New Mexico and got a better job, just was right place, right time. Just on blind Faith.👍🤗💕

@Montanaman thanks for BA.🤗 Hopefully things will work out for you and your family.

I did it in my late 30's. Worked alright for some time. The only problem was the ex wasn't committed to this new adventure. He later told me that he didn't think it would work. I loved a new country, a bold new setting for my nursing career in a learning environment. My son was in the best school district in Texas at the time. I made new friends. I fell in love with Texas life. His lack of commitment to this whole situation resulted in him screwing up majorly and us having to return to Canada. My work VISA was lost too, but not my fault. I would recommend this to anyone if your partner is committed to being supportive and to doing his part in your family. I never regretted my nursing experience and Texas still calls me back 2 decades later. Good luck. Get connections there. I did by contacting the Chamber of Commerce. Nowadays you can google. I got newspapers and found many jobs available. Sometimes a new place is the best thing for you.
For a while I did it every fifteen minutes. Phone call to my friend "Guess what?" "You're moving to Tibet."

Couple of suggestions: Hawaii is a pretty expensive place to live, might want to consider that. Apply and interview for jobs from where you are. Remember half the country wants to live in the islands.

We did that a few times. If you are determined to make it work, go for it!! I wish you the very best.

Sometimes you have to take a chance and just go for it. There are many couples/families doing it and enjoying the freedom their new lives bring. Just make sure you sit, talk, budget, before doing anything and don't forget your new way of life will bring on new challenges so be prepared for that. As long as you communicate and remember why you're doing it, you'll be OK. Good luck - when I was 19 I almost moved half way across the world = regret not doing it!

You see, it’s a massive risk. Starting a new life isn’t cheap and you must ensure the future of the child. I’d recommend ensuring jobs there first before jumping into an uncharted territory.

Maybe do it again in 2020, if power plant shuts down and house is not refinanced by then. Go back to New Mexico? IDK, just have to see.👍🤗

It might be a wonderful thing to break for freedom. I have done it myself and to a degree it worked.
You can check on jobs before you do anything else
Sometimes I think a change in our environment can help a lot.

Hawaii is expensive unless you live like native Hawaiians, but it's a beautiful place.👍
