Passed over three time.. twice because of blatant Nepotism

So.. I work for a fortune 500. Ive been a top performer in sales. Promoted a couple of times - I also am very skilled and experienced with coding, data analytics, and analytic dashboard design. Since starting at this company, I have used those skills to do many of the marketing analytic tasks, to the point of ALMOST doing the job - I clearly have the skills and have proven myself, and have been told by the highest ups at our company that I will be going into an marketing analytics role.. More than once. By several people...Well as that has been occurring, ive been then passed over 3 times for that role. Ive interviewed, been told that I would likely get the role and THEN.. Twice they have hired so and so's niece with no experience, or the CEOs daughter, etc.. Like hardcore nepotism.. Well this time.. The head boss pulled me into his office, asked if I was interested.. Then said that they may have made a mistake because his nephew fresh out of college is in the process of being hired for the role. Said he wanted to know if I was still interested, there would be a paycut involved.. and that they may have been about to make a mistake without having asked if I was interested first before giving the green light on the nephew.. I said is this an offer? Because I would love to that position despite the paycut even.. Im qualified for it and have been working for it.. and partially doing the role already.. Anyway.. Boss calls me in this morning to say that, i should interview for it (despite the nephew).. They are going to open the role up for others to apply (which legally they have to).. Then followed up with a story about how if I dont get it, that there will be other opportunities down the road for a role like this..And at that, I may not have to take a paycut at that point.

He also said, he promises that I will see an opportunity of the sort (promises that they WILL use me for a role like that, even if I dont get it this time, because of the nephew). He also says his grand vision for me is eventually replacing my boss, who will move up the chain.. Anywway.. I tried to be a good sport.. But im having trouble not being bitter. Im going to interview and apply for the position (again) .. But it sounds like I wont get it and they are just covering their butts... Its a great company and im a total rockstar here, numberwise, but nepotism seems to win everytime in regards to promotions. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Should I hold out hope?

Some companies state in the company policy that nepotism will not be tolerated.
