Have you donated blood before?

Needles make me squeamish but I’ve done it a few times
bonviveur · F
I had a horrible fear of needles and began giving blood just to overcome that fear. It worked. I donated whenever asked. And eventually I hit a 5gallon donation mark. I think I still have the plaque they gave me.

I also started doing and apheresis, which is for platelet donations. They have a needle in each arm; one arm they draw your blood and it passes through a machine that separates the blood into parts (platelets being removed) and the blood (less the platelets) are returned in your other arm. Doesn’t hurt. Sometimes people get a strange vibration feeling in their lips or metallic taste in mouth, but otherwise it’s a pretty uneventful but gracious donation/gift. I had to stop giving as my platelets were low. Haven’t donated in years. Not sure why. Maybe I’ll go back.

Thanks for the reminder.

@bonviveur I’ve never donated platelets before, but I’d like to start doing that as well. Good for you for getting over your fear 👏

@Effloresce And same to you, my friend. I made friends with a lot of off-duty cops and firemen who do this wonderful thing of donating blood.

There are some truly kind and generous people walking this earth... and you are one of them. 🤗

@bonviveur that’s so nice! thank you!! And you as well 😁🤗

I tried to one time. My high school had a blood drive so I donated, but when they scanned a sample, they discovered that I had five times the retention limit of LSD in my bloodstream. So they couldn't use it for transfusions.

@BlueMetalChick 😮 that’s wild!
Yes but it wasn't mine!!

Yes i have multiple times.
My mom is not comfortable with me doing it.
I invited my older sister once and she threw up.
Effloresce · 26-30, F
@LegionIscariot good for you for doing it! Lol I’m guessing your sister steers clear from it now

@TeirdalinFirefall] Once the doctor chased my sister with a needle when she was a kid.
TeirdalinFirefall · 31-35, M
@SW-User Sounds mildly dangerous. lol

Good for you. Dealing with something that's tough to benefit other people is getting a high five from me.
pride49 · 31-35, M
I pass out when blood is taken so no. I'm A+
Effloresce · 26-30, F
@pride49 haha that’s ok 😆 it’s definitely not for everyone. the whole process is pretty uncomfortable from start to finish
pride49 · 31-35, M
@Effloresce Maybe the weakness from blood deficiency could be a good high though
Effloresce · 26-30, F
@pride49 not gonna lie the dizzy feeling afterward is kinda cool
TeirdalinFirefall · 31-35, M
Nope. Also I hateee needles.
SW-User
@TeirdalinFirefall same and I'm too scared to
TeirdalinFirefall · 31-35, M
@SW-User I always look away. xD It's just so ugh.
SW-User
@TeirdalinFirefall ikr tell me about it.
I hate needles, but I've given several gallons of blood because people need it.
Shayla · F
Yep. I would do it more often if they offered babysitting.
PoizonApple · 41-45, F
I try to often. But sometimes my iron is too low
Effloresce · 26-30, F
@PoizonApple mine always teeters around the minimum iron level too
