This will be one of the rare moments I'm serious. Your post triggered a memory. Growing up, we had neighbors that used to leave their children alone for days on end. One of the girls came to our house and told me she was hungry. All they had in their house was bread and mayonnaise, and they had been eating those for a couple of days. Pretty terrible.

@SW-User this post made me remember similar memories, I was thinking of poor kids that would come to school with butter sandwiches or even salt sandwiches.

@reflectingmonkey Yup. I remember butter sandwiches too. Some kids didn't even have that and with no money to buy a meal, they went hungry.
