The word "hearted" bothers me

The word 'efforting' bothers me, as used in "Channel 8 news is efforting to learn whether there were any injuries."

"Hearted" bothers me too, but not as much as pronouncing the heart in I ❤ you.
@appassionata They do say it. They give a fairly convincing performance that they think it means something.

Take the new verb “efforting,” for example. “Effort,” defined by Macmillan Dictionary as “an attempt to do something that is difficult,” is a widely-recognized noun, but “efforting,” which means “trying,” is only defined in one of the 1,061 dictionaries in the OneLook.com database.May 12, 2014
