Do you support the death penalty?

SW-User
Yes. It's like killing the bad guy but in a formal way
iMystery · M
I do. Since the death penalty was removed in South Africa, criminals don't think twice about killing someone because they know there are no heavy consequences to their actions.

A few years or sometimes even MONTHS down the line those killers are back on the streets!
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
@iMystery If they know, they might die. Makes them more likely to shoot. They got nothing to lose!
iMystery · M
@Harriet03 I dont see how what you say makes sense in view of what I said?
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
Yep. Though I disagree with the methods they use...

put someone on death row for decades (average cost to house and feed a prisoner is 30K+ a year), then spend a fortune on a fancy drug cocktail to execute them painlessly...

fuck that... take them out back and shoot them, or hang them... takes a whole 5 minutes and doesn't cost taxpayers a fortune...
SW-User
@wildbill83 Agree all the way with you there. We hardly have humane wars and conflicts, people hardly consider humane self defence.

Instead we keep the terminal ill, old and dieing alive in pain and misery wanting and begging to die, alive. Because it's humane!
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
@Mamapolo2016 compare that to the number of repeat offenders who were paroled, and the number of their victims.

Sure, the system isn't perfect. But it's absurd to have it cater to the few at the expense of thousands...
@wildbill83 So you think it's okay if I execute you wrongly because that will somehow compensate for a bad guy who got away?
Paloma · 26-30, F
SW-User
@NikosLB serial killers never gave their victims a court date
Paloma · 26-30, F
@SW-User I believe they're entitled to due process, just that capital punishment is a legal penalty that may be imposed on them.
SW-User
@Paloma I agree. They have to get a fair trial. I don't stand for unconditional mercy upon the merciless .-.
I like the way you put it
SW-User
Noop. Mostly because of how much it fucking costs to have someone on death row. Also because of potential innocence, but yeah, mostly the fact that it costs way more to kill someone than it does to keep them alive (because of appeals).
@SW-User It costs to much too keep them in jail also
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
@SW-User You stole my exact comment, from my head.

Do we watch the same videos or something?

Or did we take the same class?
I have mixed feelings about it actually.
I used to not be behind it at all, even if your a murderer I thought it was better for you to rot and that some people might even see the error of their ways before they died which I thought was worth it but I think we are a bit too sensitive today, some people even pretend death doesn't exist which is ridiculous but also it was highly effective at keeping crime rates down, people are always going to break the rules but most people will try to avoid death.
Definitely the death penalty should only be used in extreme cases because they could use it to control us inside and out and the innocent should never be executed.
I don't know, humans never get anything right, it's always from one extreme to the other and we will always argue with each other about everything, especially punishment
SW-User
Yes especially for pedos. But once sentenced and to ensure no innocents get executed by mistake, they gave ten years in the cell to gather any claims of evidence and to ensure there’s links to other crimes and such.
SW-User
I used to. But there have been so many mistakes revealed where someone was found guilty and DNA has shown they were not guilty.

There is no way to reverse or compensate for taking someone's life in error.

Until something is developed that provides 100% certainty, I am four-square against capital punishment.
@wildbill83 If it was your life or the life of someone you love, would it seem worthy of note?
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
I'm not going to be drawn into a debate based on platitudes...
@wildbill83 As you wish.
SW-User
In some cases and only when it has actually been proven that the suspect is really guilty...then, yes.
SW-User
For some crimes, yeah. They're irredeemable sometimes

With a corrupt judicial system.....

I can't say I can.
SW-User
NikosLB · 26-30, M
@SW-User why?
SW-User
@NikosLB criminal sciences are very accurate in determining guilt, whilst miscarriages cannot 100% be avoided the overall benefit to society is overwhelming.

Consider, it costs more to jail an individual than to provide a hospital bed and we have little concern for civilians killed and friendly fire deaths in conflicts!
Hoodski · 36-40, M
Honestly it’s a tough situation. Like I believe if beyond a shadow of a doubt if we can prove someone is guilty then yes hands down however it seems there are flaws in deciding that so i struggle
melovemycats · 26-30, F
Nope, simply on the basis that we may accidentally kill a person who is actually not guilty.
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
No. You only need 1 mistake!! Lives ruined.
It's a no brainer!
Yes. Even for child rapists
SW-User
Absolutely not
AnonymousJSS · 22-25, F
only for obvious offenders of certain heinous crimes.. I not only support it but I wish they'd carry it out more and faster
Allelse · 36-40, M
No. Cant use blood to wash away blood, just adds more to be cleaned up later.
