Agree or disagree? Why?

[image deleted]
NickiHijab · F
Disagree. Yes, violence is powerful but there’s more to power than raw force, Charisma, influence, deception, love.. These things are separate from violent force and yet have power all the same. Violence is only one path in the many ways of power. Do we need it? Yes, in some cases we do. In defence and for survival sometimes it’s necessary but to suggest that it transcends other forms of power is where I disagree.

I have a complicated political relationship with violence.

I think violence is lazy and most of the time, not necessary. It's HARD to do things well without violence in the context of political struggle, but they can be done. I think you need to fall back to violence if you have no choice though.

It's important to keep in mind that basically every single right you enjoy as a citizen was won through protests that involved violence. That includes the women's right to vote and eight hour work day. Violence works. But other things work too and it's nice to not hurt people.

@CountScrofula says the foul mouthed prick !
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@TexChik Sigh. Once again, you don't address anything I say. You don't want to talk, you just want to call names.

And since when did you get all easily offended? You've called more people on here libtards than I can count.

I made an argument. Respond to it or go laugh at people in wheelchairs or whatever it is you do for fun.

@CountScrofula the conversation ended when you used foul language ...

So the extreme resort (violence) is the definition and the go to?

Let's apply it to crime... forget reprimands, fines or prison. Capital punishment is the gold standard.

When shallow thinkers believe they are philosophers, they make statements like these. Most of life functions very well without violence. People and governments who think like this tend to have an adolescent mentality of black/white, good guys/ bad guys, might is right... Preventable wars get fought.

@DarkHeaven Four generations of man: Bondage => Liberty => Prosperity => Decadence => (Bondage...)

Bondage to liberty (price often paid in blood)
Liberty to prosperity (hard work)
Prosperity to decadence (when the values that forged the prosperity are lost)
Decadence to bondage (collapse).
@Abstraction And so goes Rome.

Violence is only justifiable to me if your life is already in jeopardy. Like if someone else has attacked or blatantly threatened you, or if you need to kill something or someone else for food. There's a lot of useless violence in the world.
You know what I think. 🗡 🛡

@DarkHeaven Can a girl of English and Irish ancestry join your band of Viking shield maidens?
@IAmJess Of course. 🖤🤗

Well, there's a view !

Can't help but think that you'd only be strong because others perhaps wouldn't expect it.
If EVERYONE had violence as their 'Go-to' there's no telling you'd be just another victim.
Straylight · 31-35, F
@Picklebobble2 I think humanities movement towards law and order was in response to that uncertainty.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Straylight Maybe but that doesn't always work does it.
Straylight · 31-35, F
@Picklebobble2 Law and order? No, not always. But it's what society chose.
APasserby · 22-25, M
I guess being ready to use violence when the need arises isn't a bad thing

Very interesting perspective, in a way, it makes sense for the era I'm assuming it originated in.
