Do you think parents who bring their noisy kids in the cinema are selfish?

SW-User Best Comment
I think so. Especially when a movie is not really meant for little children.
Even parents who bring unruly kids to expensive restaurants.
It's inconsiderate.
SW-User
@SW-User You're welcome 🤗
SW-User
@NankerPhelge that does not stop people from bringing children. Some movies are not meant for kids but are approved for general viewing.
Dusty101 · F
@SW-User I've frog marched my daughter out of many restaurants because of bad behaviour... I'd hate her to be annoying any patron. Hence we stopped bringing her!!!

SW-User
Oh not at all...I like to pay $15 for a movie ticket just to hear a kid scream and cry through the entire film.
SW-User
@SW-User Ugh. Fortunate not to have had that issue on flights. Good thing they serve alcohol.
SW-User
@SW-User 😂 Gosh I'd go deaf after that flight

Beyond selfish.... Fucken irresponsible....

My ex and I taught our kids right. When they misbehaved, we walked out... They learned to sit and watch a movie after two times
SW-User
@MightySizeQueen Now that's parenting!
MightySizeQueen · 36-40, F
@SW-User i think the first time, they were like WTF.... Second time, they thought we were bluffing.... 😅 did that same shit at the grocery store. Left the basket of food and walked out.

Worked out well when they were kids... Now, they are teenagers, bunch of smart ass now. 😰
SW-User
@MightySizeQueen Haha my parents never took me and my sisters to the movies when we were little until we were 7 and old enough to respect other audiences.
SW-User
Yes 🙄 I spent $20 to see a movie today and some lady right in front of me had a crying infant who wasn’t even old enough to sit by himself. LEAVE HIM HOME THEN
SW-User
@SW-User Oh my god...Yesss!!!! I just got home from seeing Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom today and every time the dinosaur roared, the baby two rows behind me started crying. What even worse is that the parents just gave up calming the baby after the second round of doing so. It ruined my goddamn mood. The movie was great though
SW-User
@SW-User why even take a baby to a movie like that? Anyone with common sense would know the baby would not enjoy loud ass dinosaurs in a movie theatre especially.
SW-User
@SW-User I know right? I guess the parents didn't have common sense lol
SW-User
Parents bringing their kids into the world are selfish. 😁
SW-User
@SW-User What can I say, some truths are harsh.. 🤷
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@SW-User The main motivation for people to have children seems to be to 'complete' their own lives, without a thought as to the potential struggles their child will face...
SW-User
@Quizzical True. I've had that debated in my mind
User41 · 36-40, M
Depends on the movie.

Honestly I don’t mind crazy crying children as much as teenagers.
Serenitree · F
@SW-User Agreed. Let them have fun, but I still got my money back, because my kids were under ten, and sitting quietly, except for their complaints about not being able to see the screen or hear the movie because the big kids were sitting up on the seat backs , and making noise, swearing, lighting lighters, smoking, using their cell phones.

They can have fun, but I'm not paying for it.

But..while saying let the teens have fun ...you say the small kids shouldn't be allowed to have fun being small kids, and criticize the parents for not controlling their children.

Am I missing something, here?
SW-User
@Serenitree Oh no...I don't care about the teens if they're having their own parties. In the cinema, anyone who's annoying should not be allowed to continue enjoying the movie with the rest of the audience
Serenitree · F
@SW-User Oh, thank you. I figured I was misunderstanding.
JohnOinger · 41-45, M
Yes I hate it when kids Ruin The Movie Theater Experience

Passionfruit3 · 31-35, F
I think back in the day parenting styles need to be enforced a parent can take there parent in public and spank them without feeling like a crimminal in public parents arent the selfish one child is spare the rode beat the child totally
SW-User
They're probably the same type of parents who think it's wrong to give their children a little discipline, so they just let them run rampant and do whatever the heck they feel like doing.
SW-User
@SW-User That's too accurate
Serenitree · F
Not if they are taking the kids to a movie made for kids. Especially the ones aimed at the very young.

If it's PG14, maybe the very young shouldn't be there at all. But if you go to a children's movie, maybe it would be a good idea to go to a later showing, after all the littles are home in bed.

I would never take a very young child (under 8 years) to any movie rated PG. Or even 8+ .

On the other hand, I won't allow mine to run around, or stand up, or to just be loud and obnoxious, but I won't shush them for laughing out loud or asking questions, or expressing their thoughts about what they are seeing.
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@Serenitree I'm not denying it exists, I was just saying it's a new one on me.
SW-User
@Serenitree Yes, I think it's okay for kids to enjoy the movie like we do as long as they don't make a ruckus out of it.
Serenitree · F
@NankerPhelge I knew that.
The Only in Canada, eh?" Is from an old old commercial.

sighmeupforthat · 46-50, M
I think they're too inept to understand that situation.

Just like with rearing their brats.
SW-User
@sighmeupforthat They probably don't understand that other people wouldn't put up with their kids like them
Dusty101 · F
Yes... letting them kick the ass out of your chair.. there are more parents these days letting kids be obnoxious little turds!
Believe me I see it everyday in the pre school. They're fine with my colleague and I but when their parent comes... they throw things around climb on chairs and the parents smiling!!! "Get the fook out of my classroom!!!"
SW-User
@Dusty101 😂 That's such poor parenting
Dusty101 · F
@SW-User parents are worse!! Except a lovely few!!!
Mona86 · C
Not if they are watching a family movie
SW-User
@Mona86 Lol You mean kids movie?
@Mona86 exactly,
selfish annoying morons...god bless netflix
SW-User
@metaldog Lmao!
Yorkiedaddy · 46-50, M
Pet hate of mine, unless it’s a children’s movie
Poet123 · 26-30, M
Never had that problem here in South Korea.
Serenitree · F
@Poet123 Yeah. Spank. Not here. Ask any of the Canadian or American people responding, here. Spank a kid? Get reported as an abuser, then you've the the children's protective services threatening to take your kids away.

Physical discipline is not allowed. They can take the kids out of the place. They may not push, pull, yell at, the children, or that good parenting will be reported, and those good parents will be in deep doodoo!
Poet123 · 26-30, M
@Serenitree That's extremely stupid. Often you'll see a parent yell at their small child and even whack them a few times with a shoe or their hand. People just walk by because they're discliping the kid
Serenitree · F
@Poet123 Will the rules around spanking ever change?

Maybe. Canada has been told by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child to stop allowing parents and teachers to use physical force on children for discipline.

More and more scientific research is showing that physical punishment is harmful to children.

The UN Committee wants to end the use of physical punishment on children around the world and is asking governments to change their laws if they allow it.

Some countries have banned all forms of physical and humiliating punishment. International laws and expert opinions can have an effect on what our courts think is reasonable.

In other words, what the Supreme Court stated was legal today might not be legal tomorrow because international laws are changing and research continues to show that physical discipline is harmful.
SW-User
Very irresponsible, I hope they ban kids under a certain age from theatres and have dedicated halls for people with kids
Serenitree · F
@SW-User Here's a great idea. Building on your theme. If a movie is an action film, ( and kids really enjoy those, don't they? ), the adults get to be in the main hall, and parents with young kids should be sent to the dedicated, sound proof room where kids can make all the noise they like. If it's a children's movie, parents with their children could be in the main hall, and people who just want to watch the movie peacefully, could buy tickets to the sound proof room.😋😋😋
SW-User
@Serenitree Yes, the multiplex near me has special screens for for kids movies with a dedicated play area and colourful seats but even then some parents get their kids to the normal screens 😒
SW-User
@SW-User Those parents wanna get on our nerves...
MightySizeQueen · 36-40, F
Overall, there are certain movies that kids can be kids...

One of movie theater have a "cry room," for of course, kids who can't shut up...

MightySizeQueen · 36-40, F
Cry room, let's me know to "Don't fucken get that time slot!" 😅
SW-User
SW-User
I think it's stereotyping a kid. I've seen some adults behave worse than a kid. To answer the question more directly, I think it depends on the movie and the expected behaviour of the kid (or teenager or adult or senior citizen).
Serenitree · F
@SW-User Cunning? Yes. Little? No. They were mostly big guys! Or at least, they looked big, to an old lady with four grandkids in the same room with them.
SW-User
@Serenitree They're monsters that destroy anything in their path! Lol
Serenitree · F
@SW-User I've noticed that almost every young person I've met, as an individual, is nice, fun, friendly, and in general, I love them all. The young are the future. It's when they get together in groups that they become jerks. The larger the group, the scarier their behaviour. I believe it's a need to out do each other. (mob mentality) Fun for them, scary for the people around, because it's us the kids are playing to. They probably sit around chatting and listening to music and just generally chilling together, until there is an audience, and all it takes is one of them to do something and another to laugh and one person who isn't in their group, to tell them to be quiet, to accelerate the activity, because now, they have a reason to act out; they've been disrespected by an old person....meaning anyone who isn't with them.

This, of course, is all armchair psychology, and personal opinion. And having raised kids and grandkids and always welcomed their friends into my home, I got to see their behaviour as individuals, and how they change as more people are added. The more of them who showed up, the more likely I was to have to ask them all to leave, while I still had a modicum of control over what was going on in my home. My kids were no different. They too became part of the problem as the group grew. I guess that's what's called peer pressure.

Tune in tomorrow, same time, same place for another talk on
The World, According to Eva.
SW-User
I don’t know... I don’t like to judge. They could be having a really difficult time. I mean... You’d think they’d take them outside if they’re being really disruptive. But parenting looks hard. 😳
SW-User
@SW-User Lol You're too nice and sweet
Quizzical · 46-50, M
SW-User
@Quizzical I'm glad you agree
SW-User
I haven't had this problem but I would be pretty pissed

Like teach your kids to behave
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@SW-User Who is getting drunk?
SW-User
@Mona86 who cares

My keyboard is refreshed
SW-User
@SW-User Exactly! And if the kids are too young to understand then don't bring them to the theater lol
SW-User
I’m not sure if selfish is the right word but it is wrong.

Maybe I’m just wrong to expect silence in a movie? 🤷
SW-User
@SW-User Selfish as in the parents not thinking of the rest of the audience who have to put up with their kids crying throughout the movie

I dont think so.The parents need to tell their kids to be quiet now.
MightySizeQueen · 36-40, F
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@MightySizeQueen Is that what they said to the kids? Be quite quiet? Lol :)
SW-User
@Eddiesolds They're probably infantile according to their screaming and crying
Yes, watch the movies at home with the kiddies.
SW-User
@JustLikeGreta I know right? They know the kids are gonna make a scene at the movies yet they bring them along
Wishingwellguy · 46-50, M
If it’s a PG movie , I can’t really complain
If it's a kids movie then no
SW-User
@MushroomFaerie Well I can understand that
SW-User
yes it's rude
SW-User
@SW-User Totally!
jaymic64 · M
Not really. But I do think people should take them to age appropriate movies. And taking little ones isn’t fair to them. It’s to hard for them to keep quiet or still.
SW-User
@jaymic64 Well yeah, they know bringing their little kids to see action movies are gonna trigger the crying machines yet they still do it anyway...
jaymic64 · M
@SW-User it’s definitely not fair to the other people. But it’s not fair to the kids either. Bad move by inconsiderate parents.
SW-User
@jaymic64 What can I say? The parents are selfish
SW-User
SW-User
SW-User
@SW-User Likewise
Minime · F
Depends on the movie, the kid, and their parenting. If they can't keep their kid in check, it's terribly rude.
Serenitree · F
@Minime I think the ones who bring small children to movies not meant for kids, shouldn't even be admitted, and having admitted them, the theatre employees should have, as part of their duties, ousting the ones who refuse to keep the kids in check.
Minime · F
@Serenitree I agree completely. When you have little kids, you don't get to go to the movies, without a babysitter, for years. It just comes with being a parent. People are nuts these days. It's too f'ing expensive to mess with someone's movie time.
SW-User
@Minime I agree
No. I don't usually have a problem with noisy children. I love children.
SW-User
@VomitingWords Aw that's nice
SW-User
People who think everything should be done to suit them are selfish by default.
SW-User
@SW-User And who are you referring to in this context mentioned in my question?
YMITheWayIM · 46-50, M
I don't think so.
SW-User
@YMITheWayIM Why not? Those kids are annoying as hell
