Why is it if you have one black parent you are considered black regardless of the race of the other parent?

Why isn't Obama considered white or even mixed race but only black?

Well I've heard black is the dominant gene... Maybe something to do with that...?
@MushroomFaerie i will have to check into that one. One thing I don't think people realize I was getting at is this - Hispanic and black parent= black, asian parent and black parent= black, white parent and black parent = black

i’ve heard it. when people are mixed, they are called mixed. you only pay attention to when they’re called black. @Harley4Life

Some dont. The new princess not much.
Alot of people do just claim black. Yeah its weird to me but whatever.
