What do you think about atheists?

What religion do you believe in? Is it the same as your parents?

The only people I judge are the ones who shove their ideas at people. I was raised Catholic then turned atheist then agnostic and now I'm a bit of a spiritualist so I can understand where many people are coming from with their different beliefs. I do hate people that kill and torture for it though

The denial of any form of higher intelligence/other life in the Universe is just as intangible an ideology as any religious ideology. We have no idea how to disprove the existence of a higher power(s). There is no way of knowing whether we're alone. But, considering how unfathomably vast the Universe is, how can we possibly be the only form of life in existence? ... That is my answer to the question of summarizing my overall "worldviews" and "beliefs" (two words I'm slightly uncomfortable with) on the broad subject of Existence. As for what I "think about atheists," I mean, they're people--flawed as much as anyone else, human as much as anyone else. I definitely don't believe in any form of organized, man-made religion. If a higher power exists, I would imagine their reality is impossible for me to imagine, as a human of Earth in Time and Space.

My dad has his own beliefs. He's not religious. He has, however, brought up the subject of UFOs every time the topic of religion/existence emerges in our conversation. He is highly convinced that there is intelligence in the Universe beyond human comprehension. He has "seen lights" and once saw a "craft" completely unlike any kind of man-made transportation, seemingly beyond the limitations of gravity and other natural laws. A silent craft, as long as a football-field, travelling at high speeds. Globes of light in the desolate Southern California deserts, defying the Laws of Time and Space. He was not alone, in these trips. He was not intoxicated. These sightings happened several times in his life, in different places, and each experience was memorable for him. He's a smart man; he's educated, trained, experienced. Actually, if you do a little research, you'll find there are lots of people, even professionals in the field, who report similar experiences. Multiple trained pilots from around the world experienced sightings of the same craft, at the same time, on recording. Entire cities in the Midwest of the United States report sightings at the same time, using the same description of the UFOs. People from different countries. Etc.

My grandmother denies any form of god. My grandfather, however, is religious! That is something I did not know until recently, when I asked him. I'm not sure if there's any ritual he practices, if he prays. But. He said to me, "Some kind of god--I don't know if his name is Jesus! I don't know if it's a 'him!' "

It would be terribly self-centered for us humans to assume we're the "only ones" out there. But... We can't figure it out yet. So I guess, my answer is, simply, "I don't know!" :)

[c=#7700B2]I choose to believe in Norse mythology. My parents are Christians but I grew out of that at a very early age when I had questions no one had a answer for[/c]

I was brought up an evangelical Christian but then I moved to the Anglican church in my early 20s. Then I left church all together and would describe myself as an atheist for a long time. I was totally disillusioned with it all.

Now I don't practice a religion but can't deny my Christian upbringing. But I'm an agnostic now. That was when I had a great conversation with a vicar where I moaned that I was atheist because I saw all these religions arguing they were the one and only and that they were the only way to find the true God. I said I thought as we span on the outer edges on one galaxy in trillions that it was a bit arrogant to say all that.

He just said "Isn't it arrogant of you to say there is no God at all then?"

Very fair point. So now I'm agnostic and non-religious but God well She might well exist how would I know?
The last time I commented about them it was so funny.
I said atheists do fit into their own religion because that is their beliefs.
I got some narky clicky atheist telling me they don't believe in anything.

Oh, the irony of it all.
@Robynthebeautiful But atheism isn't a religion. The only thing they have in common is disbelief, not even necessarily in the same deity. Ironic to miss that distinction. I'm not really one but know that. 🤔

The older members of my family are Christians, but none of the younger ones wanted to stay in their silly religion and don't really believe.

My father was one or at least agnostic he didn't talk much about it so i am not sure which. My mother is a Christian not practicing but holds the core values at heart. What do i think about atheists? Everyone has the right to believe or disbelieve, the only atheists I dislike are those who act like you comit a crime for saying "bless you" to a sneezing person or "what the hell?' Trying to make everything about religion and remind you of their alleged logical and intelectual superiority.

My parents are Christian...more specifically Baptists, and that's how I was raised. However I do not follow in my parent's steps. I am not atheist as I do believe in God, but on that same note I do not actually believe in or follow any religion either. I think that all religions have some good things to learn and offer, but I don't believe that any of them are perfect and/or absolutely true and right because religion is man-made.
I’m indifferent the same as I am about most religions or beliefs, except for jahovas witnesses who are evil coming to my door when I’m trying to sleep and shoving their leaflets in my face.

@suzie1960 They show up 2 or 3 times a month on my street here...they are relentless, going to the same houses on our block over and over again.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@indyjoe That's excessive. I don't think any of those in the UK are that zealous.
I live in UK I have them about every few months.
Human beings like anyone else. I don't believe in any god(s) or religions.

My parents were christians, as was I until I grew up. Now I'm an Atheist although I do like the Pagan philosophy.
@suzie1960 Do you know that Christianity is based on the Pagan way.
Look up the Roman Emperor Constantine and what he did to try to keep the Empire going.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Robynthebeautiful Yes, I know. Almost everything in christianity is copied from older religions such as the various Pagan religions and others.

We all believe in what we believe in, even those who choose not to believe. I'm a "whatever floats your boat" type.
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
I'm a Christian, so are my parents but I decided for myself to follow Christ as a teenager

I just pictured someone shoving a bible down someones throat
My parents are still Catholic. I'm closest to being agnostic at this point. I generally don't bother people unless they make assumptions or knock at my door proselytizing.
