And on a serious note... Assad

It happened, but it's a Syrian problem - do nothing
The U.S. should launch a limited military response
The response should be diplomatic in nature - no military strikes.
It's time to teach Assad and Putin a lesson. Take out their offensive chemical arsenal.

What is your honest opinion on what should be done in response to the chemical attack in Syria?

I'm afraid I couldn't choose any of the options provided.
What I see is that the American government is talking about military action without being in possession of confirmed proof. They seem to be relying on proof supplied by the white helmet dudes who may or may not be telling the truth.

Russia and Assad have offered for American and or British investigation to take place on the ground in the exact spot where the attack allegedly took place. They have said they will safeguard any investigators who go there.

I would like to see or hear about confirmed proof. I am also still waiting for confirmed proof that the Russians were involved in the poisoning of the ex-spy in England.
Similarly I am waiting for real proof that Russia was involved in the election of Trump.

Allegations that could influence the lives of innocent people need to be backed up with real proof. Any court in the world would demand the same thing.

In this case, I legitimately don't know. Syria is such an unbelievable nightmare of a mess that you'd need to be an expert in geopolitics to make heads or tails of what an appropriate response is at this time.
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@CountScrofula You certainly have a point. I don't think though, that no response is adequate.
Miram · 31-35, F
I doubt you can take out their chemical weapons.

And any attack will end with civilian casualties and even more extreme opponents gaining more control over more territories..🙄

If politicians care about the populations there, rather than just public opinion, they'd pressure surrounding arab countries to take refugees, integrate them and help them start ordinary lives away from the war.
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@Miram All valid points - so, your opinion is nothing but diplomatic measures?
Miram · 31-35, F
@frequentlyme Yes, diplomatic sanctions and pressure. The US military bases are located very strategically. Arab governments benefit from that, not to mention the economic and military exchanges. There are plenty of cards to play. A direct intervention never ended and will never end positively.

Let's first make certain this is not simply the American war machine finding an excuse to stay where the POTUS wants to leave. The war machine is famous for making mountains out of molehills and getting the US into stupid wars. 40 people were killed which is a slow week in Chicago.

The U.S. and allies should launch a limited military response.
Show Putin some unity.
frequentlyme · 70-79, M
@Nimbus Good point... the problem with that is trying to get, in a timely manner, allies to get on board with a strike.
Nimbus · M
@frequentlyme Indeed.
I hope there will be limited talking.

The US sticking its big fat nose in other people's business is never a success, ever!
Every nation has chemical weapons... Can you really stop them all?
