trump is Ronald Reagan 2.0 right

ajsk13 · 51-55, M
Nope.. Trump has already accomplished more than Reagan did at this time in his presidency..I'm sure Reagan is looking down and smiling.. Reagan was a better diplomat but in this day and age the world doesn't need more diplomats we need decisive leaders, making us proud of who we are. the funny part to me is How we have been told under Obama ,poverty was the new norm ,America would never be a industrial power ever again ,those jobs are gone forever.. What we are witnessing is How bad an idea globalism really was..every country needs to be in charge of their own path ,the ideas of a select few and their control is NOT the answer..

In some ways, yes. Just like Reagan was, he's the ultimate establishment Washington president. But at the same time Trump is a lot less well managed, he doesn't have the ability to fly low like Reagan did. Which works both ins his favor and against it, depending on the situation.

Not really, Reagan was an amiable dunce with a talent for public speaking that appealed to most people, and he was aware of his limitations, so picked technically capable people as his senior staff (evil of intent arguably, but competent at least).

Reagan was just a frontman for the Real Doer's.

@strongbow The ones you can go fast and loose on but aren't that specific are Nancy Reagan with the drug war nonsense, and of course the accusations that he was displaying traits of Alzheimer's disease earlier than was let on. But those are kind of cheap.

The one that comes to mind immediately though is that Contras bullshit in Nicaragua. A lot of the tolerances for that were encouraged by Oliver North, and despite not being in office anymore Robert McNamara as well.

@BlueMetalChick Did you think his Alzheimers was very noticeable while in office?
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@strongbow I have trouble answering that honestly, because I wasn't alive at the time and I can only watch video tapes and listen to recordings of him, in which people deliberately point out areas where he seems to be less than lucid, I feel I'm unjustly biased.

My dad voted for Reagan but says he regrets it today. He thinks the onset of Alzheimer's wasn't very obvious, but he also admits he may not have noticed it because he was a really bad alcoholic up until the early 90's.

What made Reagan so popular was his storytelling skills. His stories were often not true, but they were catchy. Trump is no storyteller.

@JP1119 I'm inclined to agree. Although I see where OP is going with this, neither of them were/are popular candidates due to their politics. They were well liked because people felt they were relatable trustworthy people. Reagan seemed like a warm, welcoming, genuine guy who was great at telling stories. Trump is loud and abrasive and bombastic but people think he's a "straight shooter" or he "tells it like it is." So they both are playing on people's emotions rather than on their critical thinking skills.
