Does everyone need someone or something to look up to?

Yes. I'm 50 now, still find myself seeking out the advice and knowledge of older women I come to respect. I need that wisdom, and I'm old enough to listen.

Everybody needs role models.

Everyone I look up to is from my childhood or adolescence : two teachers (both male), an elderly lady who almost brought me up... Which leaves my first girlfriend - by far the biggest influence of all. I don't know if "look up to" is the correct phrase there!

I can't speak for others, but as for myself, no. I take care of myself, support myself, work full time, same career for 36 yrs, good income, and raised 3 kids.

There's a lot to be said for it; people of both genders to look up to.
