Let's run with this one.

First, we have to talk in terms of sheer scale (space). We occupy such a minuscule amount of square footage, unless you are actively in the galactic neighborhood and just happen to be looking in this direction, odds are... you won't even notice we exist. And since we seem to be only able to impact 0.0000000000000000001 of the KNOWN universe (and I am being generous), the majority of activity is SANS HUMAN.

Second, we have to talk in terms of sheer scale (time). Now, taking all the time that the universe has been around, versus how much time HUMANS have been around, and you will realize... if the universe was a bottle of soda, then the entirety of human existence would fit into the span of ONE POPPING BUBBLE. In fact, here's the even more distressing fact... it's not even the lifespan of the whole bubble... just that initial start of the "pop". And your own life in relation to that...? Fraction of a nanosecond.

So, what are we to the universe...? We are equivalent to being the same as a solitary single celled organism on the planet earth.

Now, that all being said-- here's some interesting factors.

Light reflects off of everything, radiating outwards in all directions. Therefore, anything reflecting visible light can be seen. This information (the reflection of visible light) is passed on, in every direction. Thus, the shape of the universe...? Technically, it's a hologram of YOU. But before your ego takes over... it's also simultaneously a hologram of me, the box of cereal in your kitchen, our galaxy, etc, etc.

If we are speaking about FUNCTION in the universe... so far, the only thing humans do that the universe doesn't do naturally without us in this minute section is produce PLASTICS.

Nothing more than a magical little collection of matter.
