Anyone know the origin of the saying "mind your p's and q's"?

I've heard it refers to watch your step with alcohol: mind how many pints and quarts you imbibe..

@Cavedweller they're almost identical, but mirror reversed.. to someone with dyslexia they would be a problem I imagine
