Are you for or against the death penalty?

From a moralistically point of view I used to say against, however, having been watching true stories of Cold Case files, that point of view has changed. So many of these criminals are pathological monsters.

Against. Growing up in a particularly rough area, I've known a lot of those monsters. So, I don't only speak from a moral stance. I know what they are. And I'm sure if I sat down with one again, I would be hard pressed to not think, "Someone needs to kill this mother fu--". But that is emotion, not logic.

But. You said it yourself. Pathological. As in, of a pathogen. A medical issue. In that case, the answer is obvious. If it's a psychological issue, same thing. Treatment is the moral course of action. Perhaps they will never be capable of rejoining society. But, they still have a life. They still can contribute in a meaningful way. And, some of them will change. Everyone can change.

To murder is to take away that potential. And, to murder a murderer. Well, it's just silly. It's committing the same sin, then calling it justice. No. It's revenge.

In any case, even if we called it justice. The murderers who get put to sleep get easier deaths than most people get, let alone their victims. Want them to suffer? Life will do that. Death is peace.

In the meantime, we save money by keeping them in prison--safely away from the rest of society. And, the moral course of action: allowing them to live and make whatever recomopense they can, perhaps. And if hey never change, we still didn't fall to their level. We have to be better than that. Otherwise, there is no point.
@Tatsumi Thank you for posting an outstanding point of view, much appreciated.🐵

I’m all for it, but at the same time, death is too good for some form of scum on the earth.

Against. Putting people on death row is expensive as hell. They aren't worth the resources, and the execution of even one innocent person isn't worth whatever sick thrill people get killing people that "deserve it".

@SW-User exactly.

@SW-User they do fexecution for prisoners via squad in Indonesia, bullets don’t cost that much and only one is required (or two of the prisoner survives heart shot, then the executioner uses a pistol for the “make sure” shot to the head.
In Australia the last prisoner executed was in 1964 and it was by hanging. Ropes don’t cost that much and they are re useable lol.

I'm against it: Murder is murder whether state-sanctioned or not.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout That's probably true, but we'll never hear about them.

In most cases I am against it.

Some violent crimes, including all sex crimes, I would consider capital if and only if we have absolutely overwhelming evidence such as video of the crime and a confession and a history of other violent offenses. Even then we would have a waiting period for everyone to cool off before the execution was carried out.
@Doomflower Great observation and very well said.

there are very rare cases in which they are needed like for warcrimes or dictators.

but for "normal" crimes and murder they arent justified
