sad people on similar worlds

I have just answered a question about trump winning the 2020 presidential election and I gave what I thought was a reasonable answer it was actually more tongue in cheek and got a reply from question weaver just saying blocked I guess he is a trump supporter people like this really do need to remember this is a forum and people will offer opinions that are not always agree with there I try not to offend with my replies and never would some people need to face reality and stopping living in a bubble this planet has its political problems which if not handled correctly could spiral out of control and cause mass death and destruction 😄 right I have finished and will dismount from my soapbox thank you

QuestionWeaver always blocks anyone who he doesn't believe is a rabid and unquestioning loyal Trump supporter. Join the club. That way, he creates his own echo chamber where only people who agree with him are allowed to post, and he and katielass can talk to each other without having to worry about reality slipping in.

@MistyCee True. Sad that they feel that way, because discussion is exactly what is needed right now.
@windinhishair if you really feel that way and want to engage someone who feels differently than you do, try starting small and find things you agree on.

IMO, thats what we need more then shouting about what we disagree on. Then, compromise is possible.

@MistyCee Thanks. I do that all the time, actually. I've never blocked anyone for any discussion. Only when they block me do I block them in return. Otherwise, I'm open to discussion.

You shared your opinion on the internet? How DARE you!! Don't you know you're supposed to cater to everyone even if it goes against your beliefs and what you think? 🤥

He does that i think to customize SW for a more enjoyable time here....
People get off on blocking here too much, IMO.

Sometimes I think it's symptomatic of the current political climate, but it's also an SW thing, since it's pretty much open here, without defined communities, i.e., safe spaces for getting and people who want to be comfortable with others who think like they do and have a safe place to throw stones and insults at others.

Having said that, I actually like the guy who blocked you, even though he and I disagree about politics usually.

I'm sorry you got blocked. It feels bad, even when it might be a good thing in the long run.

@MistyCee This is an internet thing, it's spread from discussion groups and other social media. People are blocking and only going to areas where their views are found, and everyone is dividing themselves up. I would like to think that I'm open-minded, but I find myself slipping into the same trap that others do. It's like being actively lazy, I don't know how else to describe it.
@SW-User you just did a pretty good job of it, I think.

This leads to polarization, echo chambers and back slapping, and makes it easier to think of other people as being more different, and less similar then they really are.

@MistyCee Self-gerrymandering. And those who scream the loudest get noticed the most. It's sickening - on both sides. And then those in the middle get labeled from either end as the enemy because they're not far enough to one side.

What's worse is that you can write anything online and people will believe it. Fact-check? Pfft. Logic? What's that? Scientific reasoning? Tools of Satan. Compromise? Cuck-talk.

can I pass a comment on some peoples replies as I already said in my original post it is a forum and people will offer different take on a question we are not automatons and all think differently I all for reasonable discussion but when people become offensive or block you they instantly lose there argument
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@smiler2012 Not only do they lose their argument, but they lose their ability to see what you post in the future. And if they were the original poster, you lose the ability to even see that post any more. Sometimes people will block you and post something negative, knowing that you can't see it or respond.

Sometimes I wonder if democracy contains the seeds of its own destruction, in that its normal right of free opinion with the responsibility not to be merely offensive or destructive is subsumed by a self-taken right not to be insulted or offended, with those two verbs' own meanings converted from "gratuitously attacked" to "told a differing opinion".

"Bubbles", as you say; also the strange notion of "safe spaces", "trigger warnings" on set texts and bans on guest speakers, demanded by some students in some universities to protect their own possibly-bright but delicate minds from difficult topics, while denying the more robustly-brained the opportunity to make up their own minds.

'
The "I'm always right so you are therefore wrong / stupid / evil even to hold differing views" attitude is nothing new to humanity, but the rise and power of "[anti?]social media" has made the rise of such repression and division so much easier and more prevalent. Perhaps socially more dangerous too, by being so insidious.

The big difference is that the binary-age repressors and divisors are not small numbers of national leaders, but large numbers of ordinary people leading ordinary lives; not strutting openly on stages and in governmental auditoria, but hiding behind bedroom curtains and nick-names.
'

Perhaps the spirit and intention of George Orwell's "Newspeak" (in 1984) stalk us even now...

You seem to be too naive for the internet
@SW-User I know I feel that way sometimes. But I kind of like it, too.

I stopped feeling that way after seeing how people behave online
@SW-User I guess I'm just desperate sometimes for interaction.
