I told a colleague some very sensitive information in confidence

And then it spread around the workplace. My manager has already made it clear she doesn't care and her manager is unlikely to either. What do I do?

Take it as a lesson not to tell the coworker anything sensitive again. Some people just can't keep anything confidential.
Starsandfire · 31-35, F
@SW-User thing is, I had to because it meant leaving work early and she was my immediate senior at the time.
SW-User
makes sense then.
lakergoy · 36-40, M
@SW-User amen sister. And they are ususally the one bitching about people being in thier business!
Better not to tell anyone at work something in confidence.
Starsandfire · 31-35, F
@JustLikeGreta I kind of had to, unfortunately :(

Very sorry to hear that... definitely never tell her anything ever again for sure.. unfortunately these instances reveal who you can and can't trust

@Starsandfire sometimes tends to make us more introverted/tight lipped.
Starsandfire · 31-35, F
@SW-User they complain that I barely talk, I wonder why?!
SW-User

Learn from your mistake for the future.
Liquidplasma · 46-50, M
Either drop it and hopefully everything goes back to normal or quit
Starsandfire · 31-35, F
@Liquidplasma it's kind of a long term thing, early complications in pregnancy that might culminate in thr miscarriage. She was my only immediate senior at work at the time

True, many small organizations don't have a formal HR department, in some cases, a union rep, or a lawyer can help.@Stereoguy
Starsandfire · 31-35, F
@Eyesropen I'm part of a huge but fairly incompetent organisation as I have experienced it.
Eyesropen · 61-69, C
If it's that huge , it will have HR. It may also have a Risk Manager ( lots of health care orgs do). Risk managers hate the idea of having legal action taken against the org,and may be a resource to help you. They may also try to coerce you to shut up. It depends on how far you want to go. Most times, you can get free or low cost legal advice if your organization is big enough, as part of the benefit package.
