Best decade for music?

Name your favorite band from that decade
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Tough question to try and answer objectively.
If you say the 60's then that was possibly the first time popular music got serious radio airplay time.

I'll say the 1970's.
True, we had all that Slade; Wizard; Sweet; David Cassidy; Osmonds stuff.
But we also had Fleetwood Mac; Led Zeppelin; Bob Marley; The Specials; Selecter; The Beat; The Jam; The sex pistols; Generation X;......

@SW-User Weird how EVERY generation has 'Their time' when it comes to popular music !
one of the oddest things i ever saw onstage was when Marty Wild (English Rock n roll singer from the '50's) introduced his daughter, Kim to an audience of post-punk new wave fans at a concert.

@Picklebobble2 The new wave kids were there to see Marty Wild? I loved the Sex Pistols and the Clash. Never got into Siouxsie. Huge Elvis Costello fan, too.

@SW-User No he was just introducing her to the audience before she went on.
Elvis Costello was surprisingly good in concert with The Attractions.
I did see Siouxie and the Banshees they were supporting The Psychedelic furs i think....may have been the other way around... But they were pretty good too !

I would say that every decade has its ups and downs and no particular decade sticks out as the best. However, I can very comfortably say that the current decade is shaping up to be one of the worst in my opinion. I don't even mean that from the "Everything popular is a genre I'm not fond of, therefore it is shit" point of view, I just find the music devoid of passion, emotion, and talent in most cases. There are exceptions to that, as there always are, but they are few and far between.
80's rock, so many great bands, I'll go with Van Halen

65 - 85 -- Beatles, Stones, Led Zeppelin, Bowie, Punk, New Wave, Van Halen, then it dies with Madonna and MJ.

@SW-User Love Pearl Jam, Nirvana and just Grunge in general

@Anastasja87 Can't argue taste -- but seems to me music has been in a huge rut for 20 years. Just think of all the changes in music from 65 - 80 even. An incredible explosion of talent and music. Even some Disco is looking good these days. Funk too!

90s because it built on the work of the previous two decades and two new and now-universal genres came of age, rap and EDM. I couldn't give you a favourite, maybe Radiohead.
