Why is that when I tell a guy he's "sweet" they get all frowny?

Neoerectus · M Best Comment
Socialization is part. Friend vs love partner is part. If just lust oriented, the role adopted comes into play for the particular sexial situation. Sweet is not Alpha or Dom to many. Sweet can work for sub, but not often then either for complex reasoning on both sides.

For a romantic love partner it can be positive for all. We all wear many hats.

I would imagine because he is unused to compliments and never was taught how to handle them. She begins to be fawned over and picked apart at 3 (or earlier) by groups of women in the family. Her hair, dress, stockings, shoes-- whatever, is dissected and made to seem gorgeous and pretty-and so she feels that way. She is sweet, darling, gorgeous, precious, etc..... But the time she is 10-she has pretty much mastered how to take a compliment.

He, at 3, no one is talking of his jeans(or cords) and smelly socks. Or shoes or belt. His hair maybe. And he is NOT receiving compliments form the same group of women that lavish them so generously on her. He is NOT made to feel special-or adorned. And he does not learn how to receive- and give- a compliment.

So when he does, as a adult or near adult, get one that is slightly feminine i nature, he knows NOT how to take it. And while it may not be meant that way, he may see it as an insult to the hard and cold masculine image he has of himself.

I could say more. I'll stop.

It upsets their macho image.

😐 Sweet huh? Hmmm *internal thinking* How will I ever get bang her now ...

@Sarahcantstop: If a good friend of mine called me sweet, no big deal. If a girl I was flirting with and was hoping for more with, called me sweet, then I would think she wasn't interested.

@Sarahcantstop: Sure thing. Its more about how I think you view me. Before the sweet comment, I might hold out hope that you view me as a potential partner. After the sweet comment though, I might think we are just friends and you aren't interested.

@Sarahcantstop: OK, here goes. When you call me sweet I know you are comfortable and trusting with me. And hardly notice I was taking your clothes off the whole time.

Personally, I like it, because sweet is how I want to be to women.

I think it's because most girls will say that when they don't like a guy romantically, friend zone term.

It's a lot like when men say that a women has a great personality. It's too often used prior to a phrase starting with "but"

Because most men are too macho to admit they like that statement. I like being told things like that

It depends on context... but to a man it's not part of his self-image.

Because in his mind. You just put him in the friend zone

Guys often hear "sweet" when a girl wants to stay just friends.
Because you just friend zoned them.

Not for friends @Sarahcantstop:
daydeeo · 61-69, M
Because they want to be thought of as hot or sexy.
royalblue1193 · 31-35, M
it could depend on how it was said
