Do you agree that you shouldn't get into a relationship until you can love/accept yourself?

I used to think that was BS but now I couldn't agree more

Sometimes the right person helps you accept yourself. With love. Love doesnt happen. Lust happens. Love grows. True love grows with someone.

You should not get into another relationship if you are married

Not necessarily coz a partner can help you to love and accept yourself too....

In theory, i completely agree. But most of us are wounded and choose relationships that remind us of where we need to heal our wounds. I'm grateful for all of them, especially the more painful ones.

I absolutely agree. You would only bring misery to the other.

I can speak from experience that weak self-esteem can drag down a relationship. :(

@Ambroseguy80: @Ambroseguy80: It will take a relationship to hell and back. I have taken a lot of things...but low self esteem is not one that I could deal with in a spouse...And I feel for anyone that has too.

@DixieChick: yes pretty much, thank you, my friend!!! 😘

It's probably a good idea. Life doesn't tend to be about ideals though.
Ambroseguy80 · 51-55, M
I think good self-esteem is important for both parties. So yes.

I don't know much about relationships but what I know for sure is that whenever I am with the person I like, I feel that my soul heals. These moments have power to drive away depression and all the miserable thoughts that it brings. For some people it might be very important to have such person around.
Although I understand that for emotionally balanced people with healthy self-esteem must be a nuisance to deal with those whose minds might not always work perfectly. You must be a strong person to not let yourself get dragged down by a partner dealing with issues.

But I find if you rely on others for happiness it only amounts to hurt
OpenlyHonestly · 31-35, F
That's true. You should never expect someone to make you happy. Above all, never blame them if they don't meet your expectations.

Accepting yourself, sure. I'm not all that sure if self love is really an actual thing or if it's just being confused with self respect. Self love sounds a bit narcissistic and smug.

*right person will come along...LOL, that's the most cheesy, delusional stupid shit
i think its bs. i used to believe it and now i realize its compleatly wrong and it was making my depression worse. it is very damaging to people like me who hate themselves. that means then i dont love anyone elce including my parents and now i see myself more objectively and realize i do still really love my parents.
AliceMortem · 31-35, F
That's not what it means IMO. You can love others without loving yourself, but it's never as healthy

Meh... They don't relate really. I think they're each to their own, but I loving yourself is important for everything surrounding your life.
