Do you think it is important to be liked by your in laws?

It would have made a huge difference for me when I was trying to survive my marriage. My former mother-in-law was a narcissist, and was probably bi-polar, a big drinker at one time, and very destructive in the things she used to say to me privately.

Important? Meh.

Yes. It can cause real problems if the in-laws don't like you. Fortunately, mine liked me.

If my spouse was closer with his parents I might think it more important than I do, but I don’t think you should ever have to lick boots.

better not to be from my experience. Then they leave you more in peace. Cause usually they don't really like you, they "like you" ..

It makes life with one’s spouse a lot easier if they don’t feel like they have to mediate between you. When you marry someone, their family is part of the package—especially if you end up having children with them.
