How many times do you try before you give up?

I've had two LTR's - one 15 yrs one 5 yrs. 3 fabulous children from the first, and one beautiful daughter from the second. But the most recent LTR went bad in a really awful way and it's made me feel that it's pointless even trying to date (online or in person) because relationships at my age are so difficult because everyone is loaded up with baggage whether they like it or not and finding a way to fit in between all that with someone new is like trying to climb over the impossible wall... Who else feels like this (especially if you're around 50 or older) and finds it ultra-frustrating and basically a waste of time and effort?
