How have you moved forward after finding out your spouse cheated?

Reflection2 · 36-40, M
In some ways you will recover and in some ways, you will never be able to recover.

Whatever the case, you will learn to survive in this brutal world.

Unfortunately most of us will run into it while in a serious relationship or a spouse. Emotional hurt is far more damaging than physical hurt and it takes a lot longer to heal. The only thing that I've known to help is the passage of time. The dreaded "Time heals all wounds." I don't actually think it is true but it does teach us how to compartmentalize our hurt so we can function again.

I have found that things often turn out for the better even though we feel like we are dying at the time. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

I have! We were never married but together for almost 6 yrs and i helped taise her daughter. But we now have a great friendship and co parent raising the daughter. Her dad has never really been in her life and looks at me as her dad and love her like my own. Always have and will. But it was rough on me right after it happened. I was actually in a spot where i needed someone the most in my life when it happened too. But ive forgiven her and am sooo grateful she came into my life or i wouldnt be the “father” i am to our daughter today. So it worked out for everyone. And i believe everything happens for a reason now.

It is hearing stories of others who have made it through stronger that really helps. The fact that you were able to not only forgive but to now co-parent her daughter is such a true testament of you strength. Thank you for sharing. I know it is such an uncomfortable topic but it’s stories like these that I was looking for. That we can overcome. @Clovisman

I dont find my story uncomfortable at all honestly. I had my own demons i was fighting at the time and now looking back i can honestly look at it like this........can you blame her for cheating on you!? You were a terrible person, and boyfriend! You werent there for her and when u were there you really weren't! In NO way or situation am i saying it ok to cheat but i really cant say i blame her. Maybe it was her way of finding a way out of the relationship with me. There would have been a much easier and honest way to go about it but it happened and i can never change that and she has even apologized to me since for the way it all happened. But like i read on down, time is the very best thing to heal a heart but when u meet someone else you will forget all about him and realize what you really deserve. And it wasnt him. And im open to answer any other questions or thoughts you have on it. Its hard dealimg with but but it can and must be done! Dont let it drag you down and consume you. It will eat you alive. You deserve better! @SlaveToHealing

My spouse has basically checked out and moved out of state back to where her family is from leaving me to run the household and assist our college kids on my own for the last 5 months. Being completely honest, I really don’t care if she’s cheating at this point.

I’ve actually gotten used to being on my own. @SlaveToHealing
@SW-User I’m sorry, Bam. 😔

I found out my ex told many lies and then after telling me she had always been faithful to me ended up engaged to another woman within a few weeks. So I'm pretty sure that was going on for some time. It's not always been easy to move on but knowing you're worth wayyyyy better than that is where it starts.
SlaveToHealing · 41-45, F
Absolutely! I think I will have a long road until I can find my true worth again. Thank you for sharing the fact that she moved on so quickly says so much about her. I hope you are finding happiness now!@Phillyphan78
Phillyphan78 · 41-45, F
@SlaveToHealing oh absolutely, totally speaks to their character and not ours! You'll find your way, give yourself time. And healing. Thank you, I'm truly happy with my beloved though there is some geographical distance between us. My best to you!
SlaveToHealing · 41-45, F
Thank you! I hope that the geographical distance will be short lived! @Phillyphan78

Not a spouse but a girlfriend I lived with and everything, so kind of similar. I've been able to move on in some ways. Others, not so much. I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to trust someone like that again. I don't plan on dating again for a nice long while.
SlaveToHealing · 41-45, F
I am so sorry because I know how hard it is to trust after such betrayal. I have a 4year old daughter and I don’t know what to do. Her daddy is everything to her. @SW-User

@SlaveToHealing That's rough. I'm sorry to hear that.

Have a feeling mine is cheating now, just haven’t got the proof yet. Sorry this happened to you...it’s awful feeling. Xx
SlaveToHealing · 41-45, F

@SlaveToHealing I get it tho, revenge in that kinda way is funny but idk what i should do anymore, whenever i see the smirk on my dad's face. i get so angry
SlaveToHealing · 41-45, F
See I imagine how you feel is how my daughter would feel. It breaks me because I don’t want her to find out. She worships her baba. @SW-User

That an uncomfortable question, I’m sure many have tried .
SlaveToHealing · 41-45, F
It is. I honestly don’t like making such a private thing public but I’m hurting so badly that I had to reach out to see how others handled it. And not people I know personally. @DisturbOne
DisturbOne · 41-45, M
What’s your head and heart telling you? We don’t gotta live with your choice. You do . The choice you make a true friend will stand behind. Good or bad . Personally there’d be hell to pay . @SlaveToHealing
I left. That was my way of clearing my mind and going forward.
SlaveToHealing · 41-45, F
I wish I could run away to be honest. I’m sure space is helpful! @Mondayschild
