what are the subtle signs of narcissism in relationship which one needs to lookout for

I've known people who'd crib about being alone but anytime they're approached by someone who'd actually care for them, they'd treat them like shit. In reality they don't seem to like anyone enough to 'bear them'and it's not just they're picky, they get a sense of superiority by rejecting potential people. I used to think that people who would constantly talk about themselves or who had a larger than life image of themselves were narcissistic but then i met someone who used to make self depreciating remarks all the time... That made them seem like the opposite of a narcissist, but little did i know that while doing so, they still were the centre of their own universe. I wish we had more awareness of such red flags in relationships.

If they can somehow make things that have nothing to do with them “about them”, you’ve got a narcissist. Magnifying a perceived slight, making sure they are always involved even when they don’t need to be (or shouldn’t be), things like that.

When they take the position of being your parent even though they are 20 years younger than you and offer pages upon pages of unsolicited advice in PMs.

Not when they think they are being kind to offer that much criticism.

@Pfuzylogic Especially of the unsolicited variety. That rarely works out well.

They try to make you humble while they humiliate.
Your lover gazes at his reflection in a pool of water at an idyllic spring in a forest glade, and inadvertently drowns himself, and unique little flowers grow at the very spot he dies.
@blasphemy666 Well someone else gets the credit for that bit of ancient fluff!

@puck61 is this about Narcissus?
LyricalOne · F
That’s actually a good point, narcissism can also be a negative focus on self.

people who talk about narcissism a lot are narcissistic
@SW-User Spot on, actually. Just like the cheating lover who accuses his or her mate of cheating. Happens all the time!

@puck61 Subconscious guilt? it's tiring, we're all flawed but in this era suddenly everything has a label and right/wrong/good/bad tag on it

Everyone's a narcissist. They just don't wanna admit it.

That's the scary part of covert narcissism they make self deprecating remarks so you have no idea that deep down they have an inner smugness about themselves. Oh there is so much that I learned about this disorder last year.
