Would you give up on someone you liked because a friend also liked them?

I have plenty of times, I feel like it’s repeating every time. Last year my friend really like this guy, but she started liking him after me, but she like him “more” I guess. This year, I am attracted to this guy; I talk to and about him a lot to my friend, who also knows him, but she told me she has a really big crush on him.
It’s strange how that always happens.

Maybe I’m not cut out for this lol.
