Ever had a date that talked all evening about being in love with someone who is definitely not you?

I've had two such dates. In both cases the guy talked for hours about an incredibly beautiful, insanely rich, super talented, empathetic, wise and saintly woman who had won his heart but, due to her circumstances as part of an immensely powerful super rich family, she was unable to marry him. Each time, I wondered about why they went out with me (in both cases they already knew me for years as a friend) and then spent the entire time talking about a woman they were hopelessly in love with, a woman so incredible it was obvious no other woman could ever compete. If they were trying to scare me away from any ideas of romancing them...all I can say is...it worked. I have not seen either one since. One of them would have been of interest to me (he was a long time family friend) but I erased the idea from my mind and haven't seen him in years now.

I would have cut those dates way short. My time on this earth is limited, I don’t need to waste it on that nonsense.

No. If that happened I'd probably just get up and leave.

@SW-User Good idea. I was too young years ago to have enough confidence to do that. Now I am sure I would not sit around as my ego was shredded; I'd be on my way after about 10 minutes.

I think these people are very lonely, due to that 'traumatic' rejection, they dont believe they'll find love again. The problem is they spent their time in fantasy land, and have gotten stuck their. You should be happy they revealed this about themselves early on. Because you're way too fabulous to be therapist, or be punished for not being her. You are a dime in you're own right they're just too broken to see that.

That is just wrong on every level.

@greenmountaingal my cynical self says they were hoping you would offer something to try to get them to focus on you instead of Miss Perfect.

@GJOFJ3 Hmmm...interesting theory. I was so put off I did not know what to say and they did most of the talking.

@greenmountaingal there is no cure for stupid. LoL
