What are some Do's and Don'ts when approaching a girl in public for the first time?

I was thinking about my past relationships today and how I've dealt with introducing myself. From what I can gather from memory, I've always either had myself introduced by a friend or have introduced myself through conversations online. Now, this was great when I was younger, however I don't want to have to rely on anyone besides myself or having to quickly swipe through tinder to strike up a conversation if I so happen to see a certain woman who peaks my interest as "Ms. right" lol. What are some do's and don'ts for approaching a prospective girlfriend in public? Ice breakers for different settings (some for the gym or college would be nice since that's where I spend most of my time in public), body language, etc. Also, please don't copy and paste any of the crap from pick up artist. Their advice is generally awful. I'll be looking forward to your replies :D

You have to be friends with her first. Not every person aims to date right off the bat, so just talk with her as you would to a friend, even if you two just met. Get to know her, ask her questions about herself and tell her things about yourself. Remember to be yourself and be honest. No one likes being around fake, dishonest people. It's awkward and makes things difficult. When you feel you've known her long enough, and well enough, then you can ask her out. Good luck :)

Dude, the good news network app is amazing! The stories about the owl's recovery and the free dental care for vets warmed my heart and put a smile on my face. Thanks for sharing that and those great tips. I'll be sure to keep them in mind for the next time :)

@Jester: I'm glad I was able to help you and I'm even more glad that you enjoyed the Good News Network!
You can do it! I know you can find your special someone! :D

@goagainsttheflow: Thank you :)

I think you should make eye to eye contact first. And calculate it if she's okay with it or not. If she is then think of like a starter convo but not lame ones like you know, corny ones. Haha. But most importantly, don't be awkward, sound confident but not too confident ;)

If my eye is in contact with hers, I'm not going to comfortable!!

Thanks for the advice! :) I'm not sure if you have the time or will, but would mind sharing your idea of a good "starter convo"? I'm terrible at small talk in general and no one from what I've experienced really wants to start off their first conversation with me discussing their dreams and ideas of the world. Then again, I can't really blame them. Some people only have their dreams to hold onto when we meet and they have to guard them under lock and key from those that wish to diminish them.

I guess I don't blame you for just wanting to talk to prospective girlfriend material. But if you talk to everyone as if you were a friend, it will come off more naturally.

Especially at a fitness center. Just say Hi and offer assistance to everyone even guys and the not so pretty girls like me because the pretty ones will notice how nice you are. And then when you do say Hi to the future Mrs Jester, she will just fall in love.

Cheers!

Thanks for the sound advice! I didn't mean to come off as some pretentious fool. I just usually try to allocate my time into areas where I see potential (such as a possible future girlfriend). This is not because I think I'm better than anyone, but simply because I'm trying to accomplish my goals which have deadlines that need to be met. Until reading your reply, I was under the impression that I no longer had time to talk to everyone just for the sake of having a nice conversation or offering advice if they directly asked for it anymore unless it fell under my schedule, however you've helped me remember that one of the main reasons I have some of these goals in the first place was so I could help individuals from all over the world have better lives. And so they in turn could share that advice with others and make the world just a tiny bit better than the one I came into haha I'm going to remember this the next time I strike up a conversation, regardless of someone's potential for this or that. Also, don't put yourself down! I'm sure you're very pretty and will find whatever your heart desires based off your advice :D

Be cool and confident. If you do compliment, don't go overboard. Tell her your name
At the gym it can be difficult since everyone's listening to music. College might be easier

Thanks for the tips brother, I'll be sure to try them out soon.

Thankfully, I'm not attracted to feminazis who declare anyone's view but their own to be more disturbing than lacking faith in darth vader lol

I don't know. I think I come across as unapproachable sometimes. Ask for directions first maybe? Keep it simple. I'm always awkward when someone approaches me because I'm not expecting it. Also if I don't know you, unless I really need help with someone and there isn't anyone I know around, then I'm going to be awkward. I think also having no expectations and thinking that you know everything is good too.

I usually just give em fifty bucks
Jester · 31-35, M
lol, I'd prefer to pay for my potential girlfriend with time and interest instead of cash xD

There's probably a lot of truth in what you say, but I couldn't be bothered reading it, it just went... Blah blah blah blah blah, then your post started emitting a dull mind numbing tone.
Jester · 31-35, M
hmmm alrighty then. Here's the KISS version:
Idea: man + woman in a relationship = fun and fulfilling lifestyle

Question: How do I break the ice with women in person, by myself , straight face, with my chest...oh hold on, I apologize. I'm channeling Kevin Hart again...so that I can achieve the desired lifestyle stated above?
Don't look at her breasts.
Okay look at her breasts but don't make it obvious.
