Is Love a choice or a feeling?

Please explain why you think this..?
Mamapolo2016 · F Best Comment
It's both, I think, though not necessarily for everybody. Some people feel love for someone who's not right, for whatever reason, and choose not to act on it. Others act.

Once you are with someone it's a choice every day, whether to overlook the knuckle-cracking or run away screaming.

@Mamapolo2016 I agree though I would prefer to have it be a choice I can't deny ... that yeah it starts out as and emotion... but emotions are fleeting

Love is a choice. Affection and physical attraction are feelings, but although they can be strong, it's when those feelings wear off that we find out whether or not we really love someone. That's when we have to make a conscious choice.
Such questions always need definition of terms. We use 'love' when it's not, really. You can want desperately to be in someone's presence, you can want to be in their bed, you can crave their good opinion, you can feel jealous when they smile at their dog. That's infatuation, and it's probably not a choice. It's hormone driven.

When you love someone, you want what's best for them, which may or may not include you. That's a choice.

I believe it is a choice. I believe you dont have to like somebody to love them. For example a homeless person who stinks of pee and who is on drugs or someone who personally attacks you for something they dont understand about you. You choose to be the better person and forgive them without getting an apology. That to me is love. Respect. I can love you but I dont have to like you all the time, nor your choices.

I do not think you choose to love, it happens. Though those in arranged marriages sometimes will come to love one another, still, I do not think it is a choice but something that happens over time.
silver1sil · 26-30, F
@Lackwittyname But technically speaking in this case wouldn't it be a choice...? I mean You are choosing to care for this person.
Lackwittyname · 51-55, M
@silver1sil I think you are choosing to abide by the arranged marriage. What happens over time is that feeling develop (or don't) and then a type of love happens.

Its a bacterial infection transfered through contact. It hits hard for a time, makes you miserable then fades away. Some people catch it often and some build an immunity if lucky.
silver1sil · 26-30, F
@ArnoldJRimmer I actually love this response.. I see all the people around me with love in their lives and they always say all the negatives about their partners or people they may feel this way towards and I feel that it's just so .. terrible they may be miserable but love keeps them there.... so ...

To me it's a feeling. When I've felt love, my whole body feels it.

Great answer and so true. @Indy74

Love is a choice. Your feelings are indicators of your proximity to the love you choose. You're much closer to being and acting in love when you're positive and happy, than when you're negative and cranky.
i dont think you can choose who you fall in love with, however, you CAN choose on which feelings you act on.

@SheCallsMeCrushDaddy So, you are saying love is a feeling but you can choose to ignore or proceed..?

Wish it was a choice...but doesn't seem controllable...😒
silver1sil · 26-30, F
@SW-User Bad experience?
SW-User
@silver1sil all of them 😒
silver1sil · 26-30, F
@SW-User I am sorry to hear that. I was once enamored with someone and I knew them well... it was never reciprocated.. but I let them be and that was shitty .. so I tried not to have that rule me ..
JustNik · 51-55, F
I’d call it a feeling. What you do with it is your choice.
silver1sil · 26-30, F
@JustNik You are saying love is a feeling and the actions taken with it are choices..?

TheConstantGardener · 56-60, M
Definitely a feeling. A choice is something you can say 'no' to.😬
silver1sil · 26-30, F
@TheConstantGardener you can say no to love. Most are just too blinded by it to take the time and evaluate a benefit or how it may be counterproductive to their day and live ...
Jibby · 56-60, C
It's a feeling the object of all life is to just procreate and nothing else
Faust76 · 46-50, M
I don't feel like this question reflects a real choice.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
It's an action, the things we do when we care for someone.
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
Both. First I felt it, then I chose it.
Thank you for BA.
DDonde · 31-35, M
It's definitely not a choice. I don't choose who I fall in love with. But I choose who I date and who I let into my life (sometimes).
