Should I even listen to them?

I’ve been dating this guy for about 4 months now. And he’s honestly great.. he treats me like a queen, he likes me for who I am, and we honestly connect on so many levels... my mother and sister tell me I “can do better”. I’m really close to my mom and sister, and respect their opinions, but at the same time I feel they’re being extremely judgmental... there haven’t been any red flags thus far, and I just don’t even know what to feel...

What leads them to say you can do better?

@LyricalOne I know for one, we are an interracial couple.. (he’s white I’m black) and we’ve seen things differently, but we’ve talked it out and came to an understanding. I told my mom and sister about the whole situation, and I just don’t think they can get past the fact that there was a problem.. even though it’s inevitable that people have differences...

@Acadiaisgone Well you’ve only been dating for four months. During that time there was a problem you two were working on. So your mom and sister haven’t been given much time to adjust. If you move forward in the relationship and they see that you’re happy, you’ll be much more likely to get their approval. So be a little patient with them and see where your relationship with your boyfriend goes.

@LyricalOne I appreciate that and will take heed. Thank you 😊
Is he an underachiever? Are they worried he can't pull his own weight?? Is he lazy??
Find out what they are seeing.

@dragonfly46 none of the above at all. I’ll ask again honestly.
@Acadiaisgone If they can't give you an answer that rings true, tell them thank you, but you need to live your own life. If you are happy with him, and he brings out good in you, then they should be happy. I'd be concerned too, especially if it's unusual for them to be this way.
Acadiaisgone · 22-25, F
@dragonfly46 You’re right. And honestly, it isn’t very unusual now that I think about it..... they’re just very protective of me since I’m the “baby”, but it’s to the point where nothing is right for me.
What do they mean by "...can do better."
@Acadiaisgone Usually when people say that, they mean that they want their loved one to date or marry someone who has a good education, a good job, or is more physically attractive. You must be the person to decide what man is best for your life.

P.S. Most men don't like to iron. That's ok. Goofy is a subjective opinion, so don't pay any attention to it.

@Autumnlover I feel like it’s all three of those. And I feel like the right guy for me isn’t dependent on any of those. Thank you for the reply—seriously ☺️☺️☺️.
