What advice would you give someone about to go thru a divorce?

Mossflower · F
get a good lawyer
bhatjc · 46-50, M
@Mossflower That works as well to
fairone · F
Get a lawyer.. its sad, but necessary.. Its a rough ride!
SW-User
@fairone I respectfully disagree

For me, lawyers should only be bought in as a last resort not a first step
fairone · F
@SW-User well I do agree with you... But in my own experience (and also anyone I have ever known)... Also most in general (meaning highest statistics, need the use of a lawyer). I don't want you to think I commend or promote it, I don't.. But simply where I come from its more often a necessity :(

@fairone 🤕🤗❤

Yes, it is a horrid process - I'm still dealing

Ditch the kids with the wife and buy a Corvette. Young girls dig middle aged dudes with nice cars and no kids.

* Secure your home. Whether it be the place you shared or somewhere new.
New locks are a must.
* Try not to let it affect your working life, easier said than done i know. But you need that as something to put your back against while you're going through it !
* If you have children. Put them at the forefront of everything you do. Your ex might be a pain in the ass but you have to remember the children need as much stability as possible during the upset.
* If you can avoid it, don't fight over the contents of your home. Better to just let it go than create stress over something that you could probably live without anyway.
* Make sure you get agreement on who's paying for what ! If your ex- owes half the rent/mortgage. Ensure you have agreement that they'll pay their way for what is owed. Including utilities.

It sucks ! But if you can do it amicably the release of tension and stress will make the whole thing easier on you.

Keep it civil.
Keep it realistic
Keep in your anger.... let it go.

Otherwise the only one that wins will be the lawyers.

@Hanging2 👏
Don't jump into another relationship straight away.

Fight for your properties. Don't give them all up because of sentimentalism. The reason this is because people need to learn that when you want a divorce you want to live a way from the man or woman you loved. It shouldn't be about properties. Often time people cease the occasion of the divorce to bankrupt their partner. they mask it as a form of revenge but in reality it proves how gready they are and why their partner cheated in the first place.

Have patience, think productive thoughts, keep busy and try to understand how you've ended up where you are and the lessons available for learning.

It get's better. Sometimes the relationship grows even more after the actual divorce. Good luck with discovering your new self.

I feel sorry for anyone that has to go through that, its good to have a great support system, family and friends.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
Ask random anonymous strangers whose qualifications and credentials you don't know and can't verify what they think you should do.
