Why is romantic love viewed as a cultural invention created by men for the subjugation of women?

Why do people believe that? Didn't they have no emotion at all believing that love is a fictitious substitute that a woman have been deceived into accepting in lieu of power, prestige, wealth, education or any empowering ideal to which women may aspire...having love is somehow supposed to make any deficiency in their lives acceptable.

Sounds like something radical femenists say to compensate for the fact that there is no love in their lives , because they’ve driven everyone away .

Marriage is what is viewed by some as a construct of the male p[population, a construct in which man has control, virtually unlimited control over "his" woman. Love, romantic or otherwise, is a different matter.

Lol it looks to me like it works a lot more the other way around. Historically men had the power trough raw physical strength and women had less rights so love worked pretty much the other way around allowing women to dominate from the shadows, reminding men that they are nothing without romantic Succes. Just look at all romantic comedies, sure as a feminist you might think " they are trying to sell you that a woman only needs love to be hapoy" but i see the oposite they are selling usually that no matter how succesful a man is unhappy without the right woman. So a man chases money power etc then realizes he needs love, the woman just chases love and gets it who is actually pictured as the inferior emotional intelligence when you really think about it? :)
The reality is when we look at something abstract like love and how it gets treated in society we each see what we want to see and the truth is not a singular entity but an ever changing amorphous amalgam of personal truths.
While there probably are fucked up relationships like that in existence, judging an entire gender/making a broad generalization that somehow the basis of romantic love is predicated on someone being “weak” or having a “deficiency” is something that someone who’s bitter and insecure would say.

The subjugation of women has nothing to do with love. Romantic or otherwise.

I never heard about such thing. Isn't the idea of romance supported mostly by women?
Quizzical · 46-50, M
I think it's rather the opposite.
GwydionFrost · 56-60, M
Right, because historically, it's a well known fact that women are known for saying, "Aw, baby... don't be mad. It meant nothing to me, it was just sex."... something a man would NEVER say, or be known for saying... 🙄

That is similar to Nietzsche's argument that religion was created to subjugate the masses. This is utter nonsense IMO.

@irishmolly72 It wasn't created to do so, but it was eventually used to do so.
Maybe for a gold digger but love is an emotion and feelings that both gender has.

Because in the end, women only really want material things (time is an exception) from men.

Men have to present such material objects and efforts in order to prove their love.

I ran into such a man ...
for him, a woman is always wrong and she must ask for forgiveness ...
I think that a woman should run away from this man
Sepia · 36-40, F
@Darina true that kind of man must be punished... I even believed that they should be perpetuated
