I just wanna say

Maybe we should do away with the whole “if you don’t love yourself you can’t love someone else” idea.

absolutely, it's always struck me as specious nonsense. Hardly anyone loves themselves, but lots of people love someone else (and demonstrate they love, sometimes at the expense of their own lives)

Possibly. But consequently, if you dislike yourself it's likely going to affect your relationship in an adverse way.
Ohbabe · 22-25, F
@SW-User Mental illness definitely affects relationships but those affects aren’t necessarily bad. Im not saying that this idea doesn’t have some truth to it. Sure. A person that’s detrimental to themselves can definitely do the same to others. My only point here is that this isn’t necessarily true for many people.

@Ohbabe I completely disagree with that assessment. It doesn't speak true from experience nor from what I see others experience.
Ohbabe · 22-25, F
@SW-User and I completely disagree with yours. Considering what I see others experience. Its fine. lol. I don’t expect everyone to agree with me
I've come to believe that it is accurate.

If you want to love someone in a healthy way, you have to love yourself.

@LithiumDrop I explained a little more in another comment
abe182 · 46-50, M
No I think there's truth to it.
abe182 · 46-50, M
@Ohbabe perhaps we're talking about two different things 🤔
Ohbabe · 22-25, F
@abe182 maybe. This was something I was told as a kid. Lol
abe182 · 46-50, M
@Ohbabe basically if you don't respect yourself, if you hate yourself, it's very difficult to love someone else more than just short term.
reflectingmonkey · 51-55, M
I see your point, its like when people "you will find someone when you stop looking"
sighmeupforthat · 46-50, M
it's just all quotes made into logic because it sounds like a good idea.

:D

i'd leave my tray table down during the 'flight' and ask for more of those tiny wine bottles and chips. :D
Dshhh · M
maybe, but if you dont like you, how can you recommend you to someone you DO like?
SW-User
Why is that?
Ohbabe · 22-25, F
@SW-User I see myself in a different way than I see other people. My ability to love my friends is different than my ability to love myself. Many people that struggle with mental illness have this problem. I struggle with depression and anxiety and sometimes its hard to find this part of me thats okay with myself. I will love my friends forever. I have no doubt. And that idea always made me feel as if I should keep myself from a relationship because I still have internal problems. But its not true. I can be in a relationship and love my bf or gf and still work on learning to love myself (:

@Ohbabe Good for you 🤗

Idk. It seems pretty accurate.
