Do your loved ones ever hold you back somehow?

Mine do. It's frustrating
Sigh... Yes. It's frustrating and dysfunctional. I've just realized lately that the critical voice always in my mind has a lot to do with my dad's critical voice echoing throughout my life. It's not his fault for being the way he is; his parents passed down the dysfunction. But it does make it hard to be around him and to respect him, when I am not respected. He's unconsciously possessive, manipulative, and controlling--even moreso now that I "fight back," though I normally have to "give up" to save my own soul and mental well-being. I don't like the way my dad treats me. It's hard, because he and I are our only support (familial and otherwise) within a thousand miles. It's tough, man. A lot of pressure.

@SW-User [c=#800055]just with their negativity, their opinions and doubts and what I could do better. That whole family is toxic and I don't know why I want to bond with them. [/c]

Tell them I can get my own drink

Not really. The only thing my mom told me was not to pursue nursing when I contemplated it in high school because she was a nurse, & she told me how hard it was.

Not actively. There are things that happened with them in my past that make me doubt myself though.
