I don't really know the context all that well so I am not sure on what else to tell you in order for you to better know her before the 1st date.
But hey usually when it comes to me I like to phrase the scenario as hanging out instead of dating that way there is no pressure on the situation
Romanticism then isn't on the forefront and somehow you get a taste of who she is without really going full in and pursuing her as a love interest.
