Give examples of relationship traps

One I know of is where a man may be afraid to end the marriage because he is afraid losing half the property which his family helped pay for.

The other is a woman who could leave her husband but is afraid of losing her kids on the grounds of a history of mental illness.

What other examples can you give?

One where one partner sets out to take full control of the other one by having them give up everything that makes then independent of them.

@SW-User I see this one rather often.

@iMystery yes. I see it often as well.

With regards to divorce, I know a lot of unhappily married people who stay together for the status of marriage and their social circle. They are too afraid to lose their 'life'. What they don't realise is they aren't living!

As for classic relationship traps there is the pregnant girlfriend or the spouse/partner who threatens to kill themselves if their spouse/partner leaves them.

But seriously, no one can put us in a cage. We, as humans do nothing without a pay-off for each action. So there has to be something keeping a person in a bad situation that they consider of higher value than their 'freedom'.

I am someone who fled the cage and although it didn't come without pain and suffering, what I have now I wouldn't give up for the world: my freedom.

Abusive relationships, the 2nd examplebcan be relevent to a guy on grounds of adultery, arranged marriages, both afraid to be alone, can't get annulment, staying together for the kids,

A history of mental illnes means nothing unless the person did something wrong. Period.
iMystery · M
@JaggedLittlePill In this case we're talking suicide attempts, deep depression, paranoia...

@iMystery past* she is probably that way because of her husband as well so yea. This is a stuoid thing that perpetuates that falsehood
